Job Summary
Highland Community Center is seeking an upbeat outgoing and energetic person to support general recreation day camps when providing modifications for youth with disabilities. This position will be responsible for planning implementing and modifying plans as needed to support youth with disabilities participating in general recreation camps.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Upholds City of Bellevue policies & procedures throughout camp locations
- Plans and supports implementation for modification plans
- Works closely with patrons parents or participants to meet needs and ensure appropriate care for all participants.
- Will drive City van and operate wheelchair lift.
- Provide support during the modification intake process as needed
- Ability to evaluate the needs of participants to create modification plans
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Experience working with youth with intellectual/developmental disabilities.
- Knowledge and demonstrated experience implementing recreation programs; past responsibility for outcome of a recreation related program or activity.
- Will have responsibility for development and management of day camp modification plans
- Must be able to multitask and work in various environments throughout the parks department recreation facilities and outdoor sites.
- Ability to handle emergency situations
- Skill in working with diverse populations
- Ability to follow directions both written and verbal
- Ability to use a computer to enter data send emails attend Teams Meetings write reports and modification plans.
- Ability to demonstrate commitment to ongoing learning of diversity equity & inclusion and a commitment to implement these principles in your work
EDUCATION EXPERIENCE AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- One or more years of experience in:
- Prior work experience or education in recreation or a related field.
- Past work experience planning or supervising a recreation program.
- Prior experience providing inclusion support
- Must be 21 years of age
- Driving is required; must have a drivers license and good driving record.
- First Aid CPR or other specialized certification or training will be provided.
- Must pass a criminal background check

- Work involves walking talking hearing using hands to handle feel or operate objects or controls and reaching with hands and arms.
- Vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision peripheral vision depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
- Job tasks involve work with youth and young adults of such a nature that the employee may be called on to make physical interventions push wheelchairs and load vans etc.
- Work will be performed primarily outdoors at least 80% of the time.
- Work will be emotionally demanding (will be working with at risk youth physically disabled persons or in potentially dangerous situations animals etc).
- Work will be physically demanding (participation in athletics lifting heavy loads pushing wheelchairs etc).
This is a seasonal non-exempt non-union position.
Definition of a Seasonal Employee: - Must be pre-approved by Human Resources to ensure compliance with the legislation.
Regularly scheduled to work up to 40 hours per week for which the customary annual employment is six months or less. - Customary means that the nature of the position typically lasts for six months or fewer and that the period of employment begins at approximately the same time each year.
- NOTE: Will be considered full-time and eligible for medical coverage if hours average 30 hours per week or more over a 12-month measurement period (or 130 hours per month).
