Job Summary
Guardian Australia is part of Guardian News & Media (GNM) publisher of. As a leading global media organisation we are renowned for our pioneering independent journalism and our award-winning digital products.
We are seeking a creative confident and experienced audio journalist to join our multimedia team. This role will prepare and produce Guardian Australias flagship narrative news podcast and provide audio production support for other audio projects and podcasts according to Guardian Australias podcasting schedule.
This role is being offered on a full-time fixed term basis (12 months).
In this role you will
- Produce our daily news podcast Full Story including commissioning daily episodes managing staff and production schedules
- Help ensure that Full Story covers topics our audience is interested in and that showcase Guardian Australias award-winning journalism in a timely manner
- Find and produce the best stories with the best voices to continually improve the show
- Edit sessions oversee edits by more junior audio producers including directing and signing off sound design
- Ensure episodes meet the highest editorial standards and legal compliance
- Produce interviews and script episodes and work with sound designers to elevate stories
- Work with hosts to continually develop the shows sound and structure
- Ensure that senior editorial staff are updated on progress and work with department heads to guide our marketing and social media teams to make sure the shows are promoted to the widest audience possible
- Work with senior team members to set strategic course for audience expansion
- Suggest ideas for investigations or mini-series based on new ideas or new takes on existing and new Guardian Australia journalism
- Create audio episode pages with engaging headlines
- Stay up to date with the latest developments in audio
Youll bring.
Knowledge and experience
- Proven track record in news storytelling
- Proven track record in an editing role in daily news/ current affairs
- Experience of producing news accurately and quickly under tight deadlines
- Impeccable editorial judgement
- Experience of managing journalists and/or managing producers key contributors and on air talent
- Proven track record in making high quality audio programming
- Experience in producing interviews collaborating on scripting and overseeing schedules
- Commitment to showcasing diverse perspectives
- Good knowledge of media law
- Ability to consistently meet tight deadlines
- Ability to recognise and develop growth opportunities
- Understanding of the tone purpose and editorial aims and values of the Guardian
- Understanding of and interest in the latest developments in audio
- Understanding of podcast distribution platforms and analytics (desirable)
