General Function

There are three (3) positions budgeted for 25 hours a week for 9 weeks.

Day Camp Program Details
The 2026 Summer Day Camp Program will run from July 7 through August 14 2026 for a total of six weeks. Staff will participate in a full week of training and program setup beginning June 30 2026. This will be followed by a final week focused on cleanup organization and wrapping up the program for the season.

Day Camp program hours are Monday through Friday 10:30 AM to 2:30 PM. Staff are expected to work Monday through Friday 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM to allow time for setup and cleanup each day.

There are three (3) Day Camp positions available for the 2026 season.


In addition to supporting day camp operations Recreation Aids and Leaders will assist with a variety of Parks and Recreation programs and events throughout the summer. This includes helping with summer concerts special events community farmers markets and outreach efforts to promote Parks and Recreation.

Reporting to the Recreation Coordinator the Recreation Lead plans supervises and leads recreation programs and activities. Responsible for ensuring a safe inclusive and engaging environment for participants while providing direction to Recreation Aides and volunteers. Exercises independent judgment in program delivery activity planning and on-site decision-making.

Representative Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Plan organize and lead age-appropriate recreation activities including sports games arts and enrichment programs
Supervise participants Recreation Aides and volunteers to ensure safe inclusive and well-managed program operations
Represent Department of Parks and Recreation at special events community programs and other department initiatives assigned.
Provide direction guidance and support to Recreation Aides and volunteers during program activities and transitions
Monitor participant behavior and address conflicts or concerns using appropriate judgment and problem-solving skills
Ensure compliance with safety procedures; identify and respond to hazards incidents or emergencies
Adapt activities (sports music drama art etc.) to meet the needs abilities and interests of participants
Serve as the primary point of contact for participants parents/guardians and the public during assigned programs
Lead and encourage participation of children staff and volunteers in recreation activities while being enthusiastic motivated and engaged with the days activities.
Provide accurate program information and respond to customer and participant questions or concerns in a professional manner
Oversee program setup organization and cleanup including equipment and supply management
Maintain inventory of program supplies and ensure proper storage and care of equipment
Complete required documentation including journals incident reports and program evaluations
Maintain a clean organized and welcoming program environment
Represent Dept of Parks & Recreation at special events community programs and other department initiatives as assigned
Maintain regular and reliable attendance
Perform other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of recreation program planning and age-appropriate activity development and instructional methods.
Knowledge of basic first aid CPR and safety practices
Ability to lead supervise and motivate youth staff and volunteers through activities in a positive and inclusive manner
Ability to communicate effectively with participants parents/guardians staff and the public
Ability to manage multiple tasks prioritize responsibilities and make sound decisions in a dynamic environment
Ability to resolve conflicts and address behavioral issues appropriately
Ability to adapt activities to varying ages abilities and group dynamics
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Skill in organizing and planning activities in a logical progressive manner
Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
Ability to teach/perform a variety of different activities (sports games arts drama dance music etc.)
Communicating effectively in active indoor and outdoor environments

Qualifying Education and Experience (Minimum Requirements)

Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
Must be at least 18 years of age
High School Diploma or GED required
Ability to pass a background check (all positions working with youth must pass background check)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Previous leadership or supervisory experience preferred
Relevant coursework training or certifications in recreation education or a related field preferred
Experience working with children youth or community programs (e.g. recreation camps childcare coaching or similar)

Special Requirements
First Aid and CPR certification required (or ability to obtain upon hire)
Food Handlers Permit preferred depending on assignment

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Work involves light to medium physical activity and may include:
Walking and standing for extended periods
Bending kneeling reaching and light lifting (up to 20 pounds)
Participating in recreational activities with children and groups of individuals

WORKING CONDITIONS
Work is performed both indoors and outdoors
Exposure to varying weather conditions noise levels and active program environments
