What You Will Be Doing:
This is your opportunity to give voice to Alaska Medicaids policies public relations media/visual information Internet/intranet publications and training programs. Be ready to collaborate on extensive public relations projects coordinate timely and accurate responses to constituent inquiries received through legislative offices the Office of the Governor and the Commissioners Office regarding division programs respond to Alaska Public Records Act requests and implement training programs for new hires across the division. There will be considerable opportunities for independent judgment and self-direction; put your stamp on this vital work

This is a rare opportunity to join a key unit within the busy and dynamic Division of Health Care Services. The team focuses on helping our colleagues support Medicaid members and providers through public communications supporting legislation regulations and procuring services. You will have opportunities to hone your skills and build your knowledge and competencies in a wide range of areas including writing and editing graphic design and web skills. You will have input into research development and decision-making within the realm of health care policy.

The Working Environment You Can Expect:

The work location is in vibrant downtown Juneaus Alaska Office Building with free parking and your newly furnished office features a wall of windows overlooking Mount Juneau Mount Roberts and the Capitol Building. Shopping dining and hiking trails are all within walking distance.

Health Care Services currently offers a hybrid telework schedule with one day in the office and four days at home. Initial onboarding and training may require full-time office work for a limited period

The ideal candidate will possess some or all of the following position-specific competencies in addition to the minimum qualifications listed below:
  • Communications and Media: Knowledge of the production communication and dissemination of information and ideas to inform and entertain via written oral and visual media and social media.
  • Web Technology: Knowledge of the principles and methods of web technologies tools and delivery systems including web security privacy policy practices and user interface issues.
  • Legal Government and Jurisprudence: Working knowledge of federal and State statutes regulations policies and procedures governing the business affairs of the division

Minimum Qualifications:

Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with competencies in

Equivalent to those typically gained by:

Progressively responsible professional experience such as supporting the administration of a Medicaid or Medicare program health insurance service health insurance management information system health insurance finance or accounting program Supplemental Security Income benefits or vocational rehabilitation program; auditing or monitoring medical or public assistance programs for fraud or quality assurance; processing medical claims using medical coding and medical billing knowledge; designing developing testing for quality assurance and implementing an information system and/or training or education which includes such course work as business administration computer sciences economics healthcare legal studies medical billing or coding public health public assistance psychology.


Special Note:

Competencies means a combination of interrelated knowledge skills abilities and behaviors that enable a person to act effectively in a job or situation.

Professional experience means work that is creative analytical evaluative and interpretive; requires a range and depth of specialized knowledge of the professions principles concepts theories and practices; and is performed with the power or right to decide or act according to ones own judgment.

Progressively responsible means indicating growth and/or advancement in complexity difficulty or level of responsibility.

Training and education in this guidance are synonyms for the process of acquiring knowledge and skills through instruction. It includes instruction through formal and informal methods (such as classroom on-line self-study and on-the-job) from accredited and unaccredited sources and long-duration (such as a post-secondary degree) and short-duration (such as a seminar) programs.

Typically gained by means the prevalent usual method of gaining the competencies expected for entry into the job.
