Visiting Assistant Professors of Theatre Arts

Job Summary
The Department serves a diverse population of students. The Theatre Arts Programs serve over 200 majors as well as dozens of minors 30 graduate students and the general university student population. Students and faculty come from increasingly diverse backgrounds: ethnic socio-economic sexual orientation and age among others. The Department of Theatre Arts Programs are committed to enhancing diversity and creating an inclusive learning and working environment.
Required base qualifications for both positions include:
- At least 3 years teaching experience at the university level
- Demonstrated expertise in teaching acting and/or actor coaching for stage and screen
- Demonstrated experience in teaching undergraduate courses in performance and graduate level courses on theatre pedagogy
The first position of Visiting Professor of Performance and Pedagogy requires the professor to teach courses in Undergraduate Performance and Graduate Pedagogy potentially including:
- Seminar in Teaching Acting
- Practicum: Teaching Beginning Acting
- Performance Practicum
- Advanced Topics in Theatre Pedagogy
- And other courses based on successful candidates expertise and the departments needs
Desired qualifications for first position include:
- MFA/PhD in Acting/Performance/Pedagogy or their international equivalent
- Ability to teach a wide range of performance classes at various levels
- Knowledge of performance pedagogies
- Professional memberships such as SAG/AFTRA VASTA and/or AEA
The second position of Visiting Professor of Acting/Performance requires the professor to teach courses in acting including:
- Acting (all levels and styles)
- Scene Study and Script Analysis
- Experience in teaching Stanislavski Meisner and other methods
- And other courses based on successful candidates expertise and the departments needs.
Desired qualifications for the second position include:
- Masters Degree in Acting/Performance
- Membership in SAG/AFTRA and/or AEA.
- Experience in stage directing
- Working knowledge of consent-forward practices and trauma-informed pedagogy
