ABOUT US:

Yorgum was established in 1991 by a group of Aboriginal women some of whom worked in womens refuges who were concerned about the lack of appropriate counselling support for Aboriginal people experiencing spiritual emotional and psychological pain. They founded a service with a healing approach rather than an ongoing crisis-driven patch-up approach.

Yorgum offers all Aboriginal people and their families autonomous community based healing services that are culturally secure trauma-informed and work within an Aboriginal Family Worldview.

THE ROLE:

Provides culturally safe trauma-informed support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Survivors of institutional abuse who are seeking to engage with the Western Australian Redress Scheme (Scheme).

SELECTION CRITERIA:

To be considered for the role you will be able to demonstrate the following experience and abilities:

qualification in /Social Work or Diploma in Counselling or relevant Human Service work experience.

understanding of the impacts of colonisation and intergenerational trauma for Aboriginal peoples in WA.

ability to work in a culturally safe respectful way with Aboriginal clients families and community.

providing one-on-one support case management advocacy counselling or similar community-based work.

organisational skills including record keeping confidential file management and timely reporting.

ability to engage and build strong working relationships with clients and relevant stakeholders.

and ability to travel to towns and communities across WA (excluding Kimberleys).

ability to work independently and as a team member.

communication skills.

experience with Microsoft applications and database applications.

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL NEED TO SUPPLY:
