This position is located at the SC Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities (DBHDD) - Office of Mental Health Spartanburg Area Mental Health 250 Dewey Ave. Spartanburg SC 29303.


Under limited Supervision you will provide rapid and mobile crisis intervention services in cooperation with county first responders to individuals who are best reached in their communities in order to efficiently meet needs for immediate safety/de-escalation and referral to appropriate level of follow-up addition to normal work schedule employee will take on-call shifts for hourly pay to assist in providing 24/7 crisis response. Provide service in a culturally sensitive manner.


Responsibilities for the Mental Health Professional I:

  • Provide emergency assessments of clients experiencing crisis. Conduct face-to-face consultations as needed with expectation of arriving no later than 60 minutes after the receipt of the call. Participate in on-call rotation and help to ensure that all on-call shifts are covered.
  • Serve as a provider of crisis intervention service by administering brief individual and/or family therapy to address the crisis situation and to identify triggers for crisis behavior (to include development of a crisis safety plan up initiating the process of involuntary commitment).
  • Participate in Intake/Mobile Crisis treatment meetings individual supervision and group supervision. Serve as liaison to the local CMHC to provide updates on SAMHC clients. Educate community response partners on the specifics of the Mobile Crisis program and help develop program protocols in conjunction with county response agencies.
  • Compile with all applicable Quality Assurance Corporate Compliance and Cultural Competency policies procedures and regulations all Federal and State laws as well as attend trainings classified as mandatory be Federal and State regulations.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

  • A masters degree in guidance counseling or the social sciences and two (2) years experience in a clinical setting.
  • In order to be credentialed for core services as a Mental Health Professional as the SC Office of Mental Health applicants must provide evidence of clinical experience providing direct patient care. This experience may be documented as a practicum or internship during graduate program or -post clinical experience may be documented as a practicum or internship during graduate program or post-graduate clinical experience. Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.
  • Health care or related experience.

Additional Comments

  • Have practical therapeutic knowledge of principles methods and counseling practices and procedures for diagnosis and treatment of behavioral and mental disorders.
  • Be able to identify and effectively utilize resources available in the community to accomplish objectives.
  • Be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with individuals families and representatives of other professional disciplines.
  • Be able to present clear and comprehensive oral and written reports.
  • Routine supervision provided by supervisor.
  • Be able to operate a state car.
  • Be able to pass CPR and Managing in the Psychiatric Setting (MAPS) Certification.
  • Perform all job duties and provide all services and documentation in compliance with CARF OMH< CCMHC Quality Assurance Compliance HIPAA Transcultural and Productivity Standards Policies and Procedures.
