Job Summary

Summary:
This is a non OTETA position. Performs routine skilled work of moderate difficulty and
responsibility in the repair and maintenance of all light to heavy duty lawn equipment including tractors.



DISTRICT EXPECTATIONS: All employees are expected to demonstrate regular and predictable attendance; to

and to maintain the professional knowledge and skills necessary to perform the essential duties and
responsibilities of their positions.

Responsibilities:
Perform various equipment repair and maintenance services both at school sites and in the maintenance
repair shop(s). This repair and maintenance includes a wide variety of functions including the fueling
lubricating oil changing blade replacement/sharpening etc. of all lawn equipment both light and heavy
duty. The lawn equipment being maintained includes but is not limited to riding mowers push mowers
edgers weed-eaters blowers portable generators stick edgers chain saws pole saws bush hogs
tractors zero-turns sweepers aerators hedge trimmers and pressure washers.

Operate a District vehicle which carries tools fuel lubricants minor replacement parts and other material
required to service site lawn equipment at school facilities.

Assist equipment operators and custodians in the repair and adjustment of equipment such as changing
blades spark plugs pull cords string line carburetors light bulbs adjusting wheel heights and other
related work that assists them in the use of their lawn equipment.

Perform periodic inspections and tune ups for equipment to insure proper functioning and performance.

Assist in the ordering of materials and parts required for the servicing of equipment as well as assisting in
maintaining an inventory of repair parts tools lubricants and equipment on the service truck or in the
shop.

Lead and instruct subordinates as necessary.

Maintain the service records of repaired equipment as well as the materials and supplies consumed in
making repairs.


Perform skilled repairs to site and lawn maintenance equipment.

Operate all hand tools power tools and compressed air equipment necessary to perform repair tasks for
all types of site lawn equipment

Adhere to principles and practices of safe use including but not limited to the operation of equipment
tools materials and HCPS owned vehicles including the maintenance of such equipment or tools.

Perform clean up and work site restoration activities i.e. pick up and remove excess repair materials
clean equipment work areas and work table surfaces including wiping down surfaces and equipment.


Respond to emergency call-outs after hours.

Attend training required by HCPS to keep abreast of current technology relevant to these trades.

The omission of any essential function herein does not preclude management from assigning duties not
listed herein if such functions are appropriate to required skill level.

Requires a general understanding of misc. maintenance tools and their basic use in the repair of engines
and lawn equipment to the extent that those tools are utilized in a safe manner consistent with current
District and OSHA regulations.

Perform any other duties as assigned.

Experience: Four years of increasingly responsible experience in general mechanical maintenance work
and/or servicing of gas and/or diesel light to heavy-duty lawn equipment and/or industrial equipment.

Certificates/Licenses/Registrations: Must have a Class A Drivers License and comply with HCPS Safe
Driver Plan. Note: Internal employment candidates who successfully apply for this position at Sites &
Utilities will be afforded 90 calendar days to procure the Class A license.


Language Skills:
Read and interpret documents such as safety rules operating and maintenance instruction and
procedure manuals. Write routine reports and correspondence. Speak effectively before groups of
individuals.

Mathematical Skills:
Add subtract multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers common fractions and
decimals. Compute rate ratio and percent and draw and interpret bar graphs.

Reasoning Ability:
Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written oral or diagram form.
Deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills: Basic TMA and Microsoft Office


PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This position requires the following lifting demands: Up to 55 pounds.

This position involves the following environmental conditions: Extreme Cold; Extreme Heat; Wet/Humid; Noise
Intensity 4 loud; Work with cleaning chemicals - wear eye protection; Vibration/Impact. Work with or near heavy
equipment; Proximity to Moving Mechanical Parts; Exposure to Electrical Shock; Working in High Exposed
Places.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Testing: Eligibility for interview requires the successful passing of a written and/or
physical test verifying knowledge of basic terms and/or tools and their use.
