Position Description:
A School Campus Safety & Security Specialist is responsible for assisting school staff in maintaining a safe and secure environment for students staff and visitors within a school or educational setting. This includes preventing detecting and responding to threats to safety and security enforcing school rules and helping to maintain order and discipline.
- Assists school staff in keeping general order in and around school property
- Assist school staff to help students comply with school rules he or she may assist school staff in many facets of school operations.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years successful experience in security or law enforcement
- CPR certified or willingness to obtain certification
- CPI trained or willingness to undergo training
- Strong communication observation & conflict resolution skills
Job Responsibilities:
- Develop positive relationships with students and staff
- Monitor school campuses for safe working conditions
- Intervene and report any safety incidents to District Administration
- Conduct annual safety audits
- Attend regular administrative meetings
- Monitor daily activity in the classrooms hallways cafeterias
- Ensure proper traffic flow in and around school parking lots
- Provide security at the Board of Education meetings and school events
- Assist school staff with investigations related to student violations of schools rules as requested
- Assist with conflict resolution efforts
- Compile reports for the District in matters that may require further investigation by the local police jurisdiction
- Operate school security camera systems and assist school staff in the review of footage as it may pertain to lost/stolen items physical conflicts etc
- Act as a resource for students/staff that may have questions or concerns relating to the criminal justice system
- Assist with identification and guidance for visitors entering the building.
The School Campus Safety & Security Specialist may carry a firearm on school property per State of Michigan MCL 28.422 MCL 28432 with permission granted by the Board of Education. While on duty the School Campus Safety & Security Specialist will be expected to wear some type of uniform or outward identification that identifies him or her as a School Campus Safety & Security Specialist.
