Position Summary
Big Bend Community College invites applications for a Campus Security Guard 1 in the colleges Campus Safety & Security Department. Under general supervision the Campus Security Guard (CSG1) 1 is responsible for promoting lawful behavior and protecting the welfare of students faculty and staff as a visible presence on campus. The CSG1 reports directly to the Director of Campus Safety & Compliance. Although non-commissioned and unarmed the CSG1 performs duties such as foot and vehicle patrols secures property investigates disturbances maintains order and monitors surveillance systems. Any violations are promptly reported to the proper authorities.
In emergency situations the CSG1 responds to the scene provides first aid and alerts additional police or emergency personnel as appropriate. The CSG1 maintains radio communication with other safety personnel and officers on campus helping to coordinate emergency plans. The CGS1 completes and submits incident reports to supervisors or law enforcement agencies as appropriate. Other duties include responding to alarms and training additional Campus Security Guards with security responsibilities. The CSG1 also serves as crowd control at special events.
This position is eligible for shift premium equal to $435 per month if the majority of hours worked fall between 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. This position reports to the Director of Campus Safety & Compliance.

- ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
- Ensure a safe and secure environment through active presence vigilance and attention to detail.
- Conduct foot and vehicle patrols of interior and exterior campus areas to monitor safety conditions and deter suspicious activity.
- Observe assess and respond appropriately to incidents including theft accidents disturbances alarms fires and natural disasters.
- Report criminal and suspicious activity to law enforcement and document incidents through timely and accurate Patrol Activity Reports (PARs).
- Monitor security cameras and inspect campus facilities vehicles and bicycles to prevent theft vandalism and safety hazards.
- Identify and address unsafe conditions security violations and unauthorized individuals on campus.
- Respond to alarms and emergency situations exercising sound judgment and following established safety protocols.
- Provide escorts for students staff and visitors when requested to support a safe campus experience.
- Screen individuals in accordance with established procedures to control access to campus facilities.
- Refer individuals to appropriate college departments or law enforcement based on the nature of incidents.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with students faculty staff and visitors demonstrating professionalism and strong interpersonal skills.
- Act as a Clery Campus Security Authority (CSA) and ensure compliance with reporting requirements.
- Represent the college in a professional manner at campus and community events promoting trust and confidence in campus safety services.
- Maintain assigned equipment and patrol vehicles in a safe and operational condition.
Minimum & Desirable Qualifications
- Minimum Qualifications
- Experience or demonstrated ability to perform public safety security or law enforcementrelated duties or the ability to quickly learn and apply these responsibilities.
- Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle in the course of duties including maintaining a valid drivers license and meeting acceptable driving standards.
- Ability to pass a criminal background investigation consistent with position requirements and demonstrate integrity professionalism and sound judgment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills including the ability to document incidents clearly and effectively.
- Basic computer proficiency including the ability to use or learn security monitoring systems and electronic reporting tools.
- Ability to work effectively with individuals from a wide range of backgrounds demonstrating respect professionalism and cultural awareness.
- Demonstrated commitment to equity inclusion and respectful engagement with diverse communities.
- Ability to work effectively as a contributing member of a team supporting shared goals and collaborating with colleagues.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously maintain organization and respond positively to frequent interruptions or changing priorities.
- Ability to meet the physical demands of the position including walking and standing for extended periods and responding quickly to emergencies.
- Ability to learn and comply with Clery Act reporting requirements.
Certifications- Valid First Aid/CPR Certification or the ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire.
- Ability to complete required emergency management training (e.g. ICS-100 ICS-200 ICS-700) within 60 days of hire.
Desirable Qualifications- Ability to communicate effectively in both English and Spanish including speaking reading and writing.
- Experience in a campus public sector or community safety setting.

WORK SCHEDULE AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Full time schedule 40 hours per week 9:00 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Monday through Friday. May be required to provide security coverage on any shift on any day for campus as needed and may be required to work overtime on occasion.
Ability to perform the physical and mental demands of the position including walking/standing indoors and outdoors on uneven terrain and sitting in or driving a patrol vehicle for prolonged periods of time; climbing stairs and ladders; bending and squatting; lifting up to 35 lbs. Routinely required to work under inclement weather conditions.
Manual dexterity and coordination are required while operating equipment such as computer keyboard handheld radio alarm controls door and access controls motorized vehicle etc.CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
