This position is located at Waccamaw Center for Mental Health (WCMH) in the following areas (Horry Georgetown and Williamsburg Counties). Telepsychiatry options are available.

Under limited supervision provides for the Medical/Psychiatric care of assigned clients at the Waccamaw Center for Mental Health Conway Clinic. The position requires full coverage for adults adolescents and child patients on emergency and/or back up basis. The expectation is that you will be available to provide psychiatric services to all individuals who are patients of WCMH on a full-time basis (37.5 hrs./week) and maintain an average bill time direct service hour of 840 annualized hours.


Responsibilities for the Psychiatrist Include:

  • Provide clinical consultation and clinical supervision to WCMH staff in interdisciplinary staffings crise/emergency situations and case follow up.
  • Maintains documentation of charts and other records in accordance with Federal State Local OMH WCMH Quality Assurance Corporate Compliance CARF and HIPAA Requirements.
  • Serve as liaison between clinic director and medical director at the Kingstree Clinic providing administrative oversight regarding medically related administrative functions.
  • Provide backup coverage for court ordered psychiatric evaluations of patients in Horry Georgetown and Williamsburg counties.
  • Testify in probate court on both mental health substance abuse involuntary commitment and treatment issues.
  • Supply psychiatric emergency evaluation diagnostic assessment and treatment to all patients of WCMH.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

  • Licensed to practice medicine in the State of South Carolina. Completion of full residency (four years) in psychiatry. Must meet OMH credentialing requirements.

Salary may vary depending on experience and qualifications.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Board Certification in adult child and adolescent psychiatry.

  • Extensive knowledge of the latest treatment modalities and techniques in General Psychiatry. Must be able to document significant continuing medical educational activities. Individual must have the ability and skills to work with a wide variety of patients and staff of various backgrounds and ethnicities. Must be comfortable with consulting with outside agencies and representing WCMH and South Carolina Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities/Office of Mental Health to others at times when needed. Individual must be fully licensed to practice medicine in SC and be able to prescribe controlled substances.

  • Bilingual abilities in English and Spanish (or another language) are a plus.
