Associated Students UCLA as a responsive student-centered organization provides innovative and excellent services programs products and facilities for the entire UCLA community. ASUCLA was created when the campus first opened in 1919. Even in the very early years ASUCLA meant student government student publications and student services such as a bookstore and cafeteria. Today ASUCLA has evolved into a four-part organization. These four entities collectively make up the largest student association in the country. The four entities are: - Undergraduate Students Association elected representatives of the undergraduate student body.
- Graduate Students Association elected representatives of the graduate student body.
- Student Media this includes the Daily Bruin the Bruin Life Yearbook and seven different magazines.
- Services & Enterprises this division is designed to meet the everyday needs of students and the campus community. Major divisions are the Student Union Event Services UCLA Restaurants UCLA Store UCLA Photography and Trademarks & Licensing.
Goals of Associated Students UCLA: Products -To provide essential and convenient items that are easily accessible of high quality and low cost including but not limited to academic support food trademark merchandise and convenience addition to continue evaluating the utility and convenience of all products to make improvements that will best serve the UCLA community.
Facilities -To provide a welcoming environment that contains as much space as possible for the optimal functioning of general academic support student governments student organizations and social gatherings. To have state-of-the-art venues for programming and efficient aesthetic and multi-functional commercial outlets.
Programs -To provide and support a diversified array of programming by prioritizing student-run student-initiated student-centered programming that reflects the needs of the campus community in order to enhance educational cultural and developmental social interaction.
Services -To provide an outstanding level of support to student government student groups and student programs through the state-of-the-art office and community spaces and by providing adequate financial resources and personnel to ensure an active and vibrant campus life.
Student Union Building Operations Coordinator (Limited Appointment) Hourly Range: $21- $23 Department: Student Union
Under the direction of the Building Operations Manager the Building Operations Coordinator supports day-to-day building operations by executing assigned tasks maintaining facility standards and providing front-line customer service within the Student Union. The role also provides support to staff oversight and assists with administrative functions to ensure efficient operations. Summary of Key Responsibilities: Building Operation Execution - Conduct opening and closing procedures for Student Union facilities including access control and security checks
- Perform routine rounds of lounges meeting rooms event venues and common areas to ensure cleanliness safety and operational readiness
- Opening rounds:
- All public interior and exterior doors in AU and KH are opened for access
- Conduct regular rounds of the Student Union lounges meeting rooms event venues and common areas to ensure that:
- all public entrances restrooms and common areas are well-maintained.
- all spills or needed repairs are reported to ASUCLA Maintenance posting appropriate signs.
- all private offices or closed retail areas are secured.
- all on-going events and meeting are proceeding smoothly and according to policy.
- Closing rounds
- all visitors including event and meeting attendees have exited (excluding occupants of private offices).
- all exterior entrances are secured.
- all private offices and retail areas are secured.
- all needed repairs are reported to ASUCLA Maintenance posting appropriate signs.
- Report maintenance safety or facility concerns and ensure appropriate signage is posted
- Ensure all public and private spaces are secured and maintained in accordance with policies
- Ensure operational information from departments vendors or customers is promptly communicated and routed to the Supervisor Manager or appropriate staff.
- In the absence of the Building Operations Manager and Supervisor provide support to the oversight of student staff during assigned shifts and ensure task lists are completed.
- Provide after-hours assistance to ASUCLA Security ASUCLA Maintenance ASUCLA Facilities Management Student Union Event Services and other ASUCLA departments including but not limited to:
- Access to secured areas.
- Oversight of non-ASUCLA staff working in secured areas.
- Emergency contact to appropriate personnel in the case of security alarm.
- Liaison to UC Fire Protection UCPD and Campus Facilities as needed.
Event & Operational Support - Monitor events and meetings to ensure compliance with policies and smooth execution
- Provide operational support to Event Services Security and Facilities teams as needed
- Assist with access control and vendor coordination under the direction of the Supervisor
- Ensure that all Events Services student staff-on-duty are following policies and procedures.
Staff Support - In the absence of the Building Operations Manager and Building Operations Supervisor provide support to the supervision of Building Operations student staff during assigned shifts Ensure that all duties on task lists are completed
- Reinforce policies and procedures and escalate performance or operational concerns to the Supervisor
- Support onboarding and peer guidance as directed
Customer Service - Answer phones and in-person questions at the Information Window. Ensure that all disseminated information is accurate. Ensure that customer service standards are enforced.
- Provide accurate information and respond to inquiries from students staff and guests
- Support a welcoming safe and customer-focused environment
Administrative Support - Regularly check emails and Building Manager binder to ensure updated/accurate information regarding ASUCLA and University policies and procedures.
- Assist the Building Operations Manager with minor administrative tasks including:
- Maintaining logs reports and operational documentation
- Updating shift reports and checklists
- Monitoring communications and routing information appropriately
- Supporting scheduling or coordination tasks as assigned
Policy & Communication Compliance - Follow established policies procedures and task lists during assigned shifts
- Maintain awareness of updates related to operations safety and events
- Communicate relevant operational information to the Supervisor or Manager as appropriate
Qualifications: Experience must demonstrate effective: handling of a variety of priorities and timelines; events operations skills; customer service skills; communication with diverse groups/individuals written and verbal; supervision skills. PC word processing proficiency. Supervises: Directly and indirectly supervises part-time student staff. Physical Requirements: Frequent walking standing sitting reaching gripping bending stooping pushing pulling; occasional lifting up to 50 lbs. Background Verification: Fingerprinting Background Verification is required. Work Location: This position requires in-person on-site presence within the Student Union to support building operations and event activities.
