General Summary:
The Multi Skilled Technician performs technical and clerical duties associated with the care and treatment of patients under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Administers skilled direct and indirect patient care to an assigned group of patients according to the patients plan of care under the direction of a licensed nurse. Adheres to universal precautions and is compliant with infection control policies. The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in the diagnostic imaging an environment of continuous quality improvement obtains diagnostic radiographs. Assists in administration of contrast media related to particular diagnostic procedures. Provides coverage in the clinical and clerical aspects of the practice.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Completion of an accredited medical training program or at least 2 years as an MST
- Current CPR Certification
- Attention to detail
- Basic computer skills
- Good written and oral communication skills
- Up to date on immunizations required by MVHC
Working Conditions:
- Lifting up to 50 lbs. occasionally
- Carry up to 20 lbs. occasionally
- Standing 1-2 hours at a time
- Walking approx. 30 minutes per hour throughout the day
- Withstanding pressure and deals with emergency situations as needed
- Average working hours with possible non-traditional hours
- Potential for exposure to blood and body fluids
- Ability to deal with upset or disgruntle patients in order to deescalate the situation
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
- Adheres to Personnel Policies
- Maintains patient flow as directed
- Prepares examination room for patients and providers
- Obtains patient history
- Administers medications within scope
- Performs routine patient procedures (vital signs routine lab work anthropometrics) as per nursing/provider direction or as by protocols
- Assists with patient care tasks and procedures i.e. pap tests/pelvic exams surgical procedures and dressings.
- Refers patients health education questions to physicians and nurses when indicated
- Prepares patients for diagnostics tests; collects and labels specimens completes POC testing and daily quality controls
- Performs equipment checks and calibrations
- Administers screening tests under the direction of medical providers and nurses
- Assist patient as needed responding promptly to patient calls and requests
- Assists in organizing medical information as needed prior to the patient visit
- Cleans sanitize and sterilizes instruments equipment and exam room as required
- Calls in prescriptions accurately and timely; prepares prescription refills in the EHR
- Answers telephone makes same day appointments and takes messages for nurses and doctors
- Tracks imaging and lab results
- Participates in Quality improvement activities that include identifying clinical problems participates in quality improvement teams and evaluating effectiveness of program improvements
- Maintains supplies in exam rooms inventories and restocks usable items; washes wraps and sterilizes instruments as required
- Maintains a clean safe orderly work area and stocks clinical areas
- Orders supplies
- Maintains refrigerator temperature log
- Adheres to center infection control policies
- Actively participates in quality improvement
- Maintains accurate documentation in medical records and performs documentation in the patient room
- Participates in staff meetings as required
- Precepts new staff
- Strict adherence to confidentiality of all information related to all patients and organizational information
- Performs other job-related tasks as directed
- Assist the patient in obtaining processing and understanding basic health information and services needed to make appropriate health decisions
- Assist with department-specific provider schedule management and patient flow through means such as making sure provider schedules are filled by following up on no-show or cancellation appointments and confirming patient visits the day before the scheduled appointment
- Float to other sites and service lines as assigned by manager
- Displays a respectful caring attitude toward patients at all times
- Reports all necessary information and/or unusual occurrences in accordance with established policies and procedures and notifies Clinical Manager of unusual occurrences as they develop
- Completes incident reports immediately in all required situations
- Communicates significant clinical information to other health care professionals as necessary
- Uses time wisely and meets requested deadlines by supervisor
- Works toward MVHC mission and vision
- Shows willingness to work as a team in service line and with all MVHC service lines
- Promotes MVHC in positive manner to patients staff and outside organizations
- Attends work as scheduled
- Provides positive customer service and works to improve patient experience
- Ability to adapt to different situations and schedules
