The Power Conversion Rotating Machines Rugby Engineering Team is responsible for the design and engineering of motors and generators to deliver optimised system solutions in line with the requirements of the wider GEPC business units such as Industry Marine and Naval.Reporting to the Head of Engineering they will lead a team of electrical mechanical and CAD engineers responsible for the design and development of products solutions and systems following a Safety Quality Delivery Cost lean mantra for Marine Team. The role also includes continuous improvement activities of existing products and components. They will be responsible for departmental activities such as resource planning coaching of staff and focused activities on technical and operational continuous improvement.
Job Description
In this role you will focus on:
- Team leader responsibilities include managing a team of cross-functional skills (electrical mechanical and CAD) as part of OTR Engineering to deliver a product for a variety of Marine applications in SQDC order. This includes day-to-day management of team members support to various other functions to keep production on time without compromising quality.
- It also involve participating on Technical Risk Assessment (TRA) R1 review for potential opportunities peer reviews for technical design/analyses work as and when required.
- Mentoring/coaching and managing a small to medium team of lead and early career professionals to carry out detailed analytical / finite element analysis of machines and their performance.
- Supporting Engineering Manager through participating in operations review managing team level KPI and keeping strict process adherence within Engineering department.
- Influencing the development of strategy for the area of responsibility including control of resources and influences policy formulation.
- Using high level of judgment to make decisions and handle complex tasks or problems in areas of product design and management manufacturing and after sale services.
- Understanding contractual requirements and provide technical solution in case of a conflict in a timely manner with quality.
- Specifying requirements for auxiliary systems relevant to large rotating electrical machines.
- Investigating new materials and methods to improve the competitiveness of the machines.
- Working closely with customers and other third parties to provide the solutions they require.
- Creation and submission of required design data to document the design progress.
We are looking for a committed and professional individual with:
- A masters degree in mechanical/electrical engineering with a significant experience (preferrable >15 years) in a rotating electrical machines engineering environment.
- Solid knowledge of stress analysis using hand calculations or Electromagnetic analysis.
- Knwoledge in mechanical design including rotor dynamics and torsional analysis.
- Know-how of rotating electrical machines their engineering challenges and manufacturing processes.
- Experience with engineering design processes and practices.
- Familiarity with a variety of Industry Standards i.e. ISO 9000 BS EN IEC 60034 IEEE 115 etc.
- Computer literacy in Microsoft Office suite (Word Excel PowerPoint Outlook).
- Flexible approach willing to work extended hours and travel as and when required.
