Executive Chef at Glenaire Upscale Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC)- Cary NC

Position Summary

The Executive Chef is responsible for the overall culinary leadership of a premier Continuing Care Retirement Community serving approximately 600 independent living residents and 150 healthcare residents. This role oversees all dining operations across multiple venues ensuring an exceptional restaurant-quality experience for independent living residents while delivering nutritionally appropriate appealing and clinically compliant dining for healthcare residents.
This position requires a dynamic leader with strong expertise in healthcare dining operational excellence team development and strategic planning with a commitment to elevating hospitality standards in a senior living environment.
Key Responsibilities

Culinary Leadership & Operations

  • Direct all food production menu execution and culinary standards across independent living venues cafés and healthcare dining.
  • Design and implement seasonal innovative and resident-driven menus that reflect upscale dining trends while meeting diverse dietary needs.
  • Ensure consistent quality presentation and service excellence across all dining experiences.
  • Maintain strict adherence to food safety sanitation and regulatory compliance (local state federal and healthcare standards).

Healthcare & Therapeutic Dining Expertise

  • Collaborate with clinical teams to develop and execute menus that meet therapeutic modified texture and medically prescribed diets.
  • Lead initiatives that enhance resident satisfaction dignity and quality of life through thoughtful healthcare dining programs.
  • Ensure compliance with CMS guidelines dietary regulations and infection control standards.

Leadership Team Building & Mentorship

  • Recruit develop and retain a high-performing culinary team across all levels.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Provide hands-on mentoring performance coaching and career development opportunities.
  • Establish and maintain clear communication and alignment across culinary service and leadership teams.
  • Collaborate with the Dining Executive team to plan and establish clear goals and objectives.

Strategic Planning Organization & Forecasting

  • Lead operational planning budgeting and cost control initiatives ensuring financial targets are met.
  • Utilize data analytics resident feedback and industry trends to forecast demand optimize menus and improve efficiencies.
  • Manage purchasing inventory control and vendor relationships to ensure quality and cost-effectiveness.
  • Drive innovation by introducing new dining concepts technologies and service models.

Resident Engagement & Experience

  • Actively engage with residents to gather feedback address concerns and build strong relationships.
  • Participate in community events special dining experiences and signature culinary programs.
  • Uphold a hospitality-first culture that exceeds expectations.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelors degree in Culinary Arts Hospitality Management or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum 710 years of progressive culinary leadership experience including multi-outlet or large-scale foodservice operations.
  • Demonstrated experience in upscale dining environments and healthcare or senior living dining.
  • Strong knowledge of nutrition therapeutic diets and food safety regulations.
  • Proven leadership ability with a track record of team development retention and engagement.
  • Expertise in budget management cost controls and operational planning.

Preferred

  • American Culinary Federation (ACF) Certified Executive Chef (CEC) or higher.
  • World Association of Chefs Societies (WACS) certification.
  • Experience working in a Continuing Care Retirement Community (CCRC) or similar environment.
