Village 21 Key Worker

Support young people on their journey to independence. The Key Worker provides personalised case management building strong supportive relationships to help young people develop life skills connect with culture and community and achieve their goals. Through tailored planning regular progress reviews and collaboration with Volunteer Mentors and program leadership the Key Worker plays a vital role in preparing young people for a successful transition to independent living.

Organisational Profile

GEGAC is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation based in Bairnsdale Victoria. Consisting of about 200 staff GEGAC is a Not-for-Profit organisation that delivers holistic services in the areas of Primary Health Social Services Elders & Disability and Early Childhood Education.

GEGAC advocates for the self-determination of the Aboriginal community by prioritising services that enhance social emotional and spiritual wellbeing with culture at the heart of everything we do.

Position Purpose

• In responding to homelessness the position will incorporate the following service responses:
• Early intervention and response to immediate support and housing issues.
• Intensive case management support for people with high and complex needs
• Linkages to housing support and placement.
• Development of education and training pathway plans and linkages to education and training programs.
• Development of living and life skills plans.
• Linking young people to the rental market and other housing options.
• Advocacy and support with housing providers; including private rental market.
• Working with housing providers to support the Transitional Housing Management program.
• Referral to appropriate supports as noted in client case plan.

Key Selection Criteria

Qualification and/or high level of experience in social work community services or housing related discipline.

High level of administrative skills and computer literacy and effective time management skills.

Excellent interpersonal skills including well- developed communication advocacy and negotiation skills.

A demonstrated knowledge of the local Aboriginal community culture and understanding of factors that impact the social economic spiritual wellbeing and housing of Aboriginal people and their family networks.

Demonstrated ability to develop tailored case plans that identify and prioritise support needs.

Experience and understanding of homelessness the public/community housing sectors and associated key stakeholders and support agencies would be highly regarded.

An ability to work in a culturally appropriate and respectful manner with the Aboriginal community.

Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the Youth employment education and training.

An ability to work effectively with Aboriginal organisations Government departments and community service organisations.

Qualifications and Registrations Requirement (Essential or Desirable).

A relevant tertiary qualification in Social Work Psychology Youth Work and/or related behavioural sciences at degree level with substantial experience; or associate diploma level with substantial experience in the relevant service stream or less formal qualifications with specialised skills sufficient to perform at this level ESSENTIAL

A solid understanding and working experience of the housing and homelessness service sector DESIRABLE

Valid Victorian drivers licence ESSENTIAL

A satisfactory Working with Children Check and Fit2Work Police Check ESSENTIAL

A person of Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander background DESIRABLE

Proof of COVID-19 vaccinated to align with GEGAC requirements ESSENTIAL
