Site Inspector
Job Summary
We are currently looking for an experienced Construction Inspector to join our Infrastructure team in Ottawa. As a Construction Inspector you will play a key role in ensuring the quality and compliance of construction activities on infrastructure construction projects.
Job Responsibilities:
- Engineering site inspection on municipal construction projects for quality control and adherence with applicable provincial standards engineering design and technical specifications
- Document construction site activities (keeping a detailed daily report log taking photos performing survey checks and recording as-built conditions) and identify and monitor deficiencies
- Track and prepare end-of-month quantity reports for contractor progress payment
- Provide problem resolution and field solutions with respect to unforeseen construction issues and participate in construction progress meetings
- Arrange on-site geotechnical investigations and material testing (for concrete granular materials and asphalt) and coordinate with Engineering for specialist inspections
- Ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety Act on construction sites with authority to issue stop work orders; ensure proper Ministry and project procedures are followed to ensure public/pedestrian safety
- Liaise with clients regulatory inspectors various utility companies residents and other stakeholders as required
Qualifications :
- Experience in infrastructure construction with direct experience in road and linear infrastructure required; 5 years experience preferred but will consider candidates with at least 2 years of such experience
- Effective communicator possessing demonstrated skills in dealing with other staff contractors and the public in matters arising from construction projects
- Ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications
- MTO Class G drivers license in good standing and access to a personnel vehicle
- Working knowledge of the Occupation Health and Safety Act and its Regulations and Ontario Provincial Standards and Specifications (OPSS) for Municipal projects
- Ability to work with a variety of stakeholders including contractors and other site personnel
- Integrity team spirit and a commitment to excellence
Assets:
- Knowledge of use of a construction level and surveying is an asset
- Demonstrated skills in the use of computer utilizing programs such as Microsoft Office (Word Excel Project Outlook etc.) Bluebeam and AutoCAD (asset)
- RCSI designation an asset
- Eligible for . or CET designation is an asset
- Experience working on City of Ottawa infrastructure projects an asset
