Job Summary

The Ophthalmology department is offering a full time (fixed term for 1 year) Locum Consultant position to provide comprehensive Oculoplastics and Cataract services at Queen Alexandra Hospital Portsmouth.  In addition the post holder will be expected to participate in other elements of departmental activity such as Emergency and General Ophthalmology including on call cover.

The post will consist of 8 clinical sessions: Oculoplastics (2-3) Cataract (1-2) and general/emergency (1) outpatient clinics Oculoplastics operating sessions (1-2) and cataract (1) operating sessions.  There will be an on-call commitment of 1:12. Uniquely there is the opportunity to support the Lacrimal Service run jointly with ENT. Once a month a Periocular Oncology MDT is held with Dermatologists and OMFS surgeons and there may be a requirement to participate in Head & Neck MDT.

The successful applicant will be expected to participate fully in supporting ophthalmic services training and research.  There is a bi-weekly teaching session on a Wednesday afternoon which involves the Consultants Junior Doctors and nursing and orthoptic staff.  There are regular departmental Morbidity and Mortality meetings and regional collaboration for teaching/training.


Qualifications :

  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practice on Specialist Register (or soon to be)
  • FRCOphth (or equivalent)
  • Evidence of an Oculoplastic fellowship
