Job Description

This classification performs work that involves a variety of detailed clerical duties for the Supreme CourtAttorney Services Division. Responsibilities may include responding to requests from attorneys for assistancewith annual licensure requirements; obtaining records from applicants for admission to the Nebraska state bar;maintaining attorney admission and licensure records; preparing and administering the Nebraska BarExam;

and assisting the Director of Admissions in carrying out duties for the State BarCommission.

20 Hours Per Week.

Extra hours may occasionally be available.

Salary:

AAttorney Services DivisionAssistantssalary range is$22.357 - $27.240 per hour.

After probation period is completed the Permanent wage will increase at least 2.5%. Pay rate may be commensurate with education and/or experience within fiscal constraints if approved.

Job Duties

1.Provides support in response toinquiresabout attorney admission via phoneemail or in-person; directsinquiresto appropriate departments.

2.Prepares Certificates of Authority for professional organizations organized forthe purpose of conducting the practice of law in the State of Nebraska.

3.Maintains files on bar admissions suspensions disbarments and seniorcertified letters; sends notice to applicants of success or failure afterexamination and notices of suspensions and reinstatements; and preparesagenda list of applicants and chair labels for swearing in ceremonies.

4.Prepare Certificates of Good Standing for members of the Nebraska State Bar.

5.Assists in the maintenance of the Attorney Services Website and associatedproject list for the website vendor.

6.Assists in the preparation and administration of the Nebraska State Bar Exam.

7.Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Requirements/Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma. Experience in government office higher-education office law office or sufficientexperience to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

Preferred Qualifications: Associates degree bachelorsdegree oraparalegal certificate. Havetheability to work more than 20 hours per week duringtheadministration of the Bar Exam anddates associated with attorney license renewal deadlines. Substantivecustomer servicereceptionist or secretarialwork experienceas well as substantive experience in either aprofessional or academic admissions officeregulatory government agency or other setting involving licensure. Experience handling andmaintainingconfidential records.

Knowledge Requirements:

  • Knowledge of written and verbalEnglish;
  • Computers and applicable software applications.

Skill Requirements:

  • Writing and communicating inEnglish;
  • Maintaining records andfiles;
  • Preparing legaldocuments;
  • Operating computers and applicable softwareapplications;
  • Utilizing communication and interpersonal skillsasapplied to interaction with coworkers supervisors thegeneral publicand others to sufficiently exchange or convey information and to receive work direction.
  • Assembling and organizing data andinformation;

Physical Requirements:

Light Work:Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of forcefrequently and/ora negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertionof forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time the job is rated for LightWork.
