Job Summary

The Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM) seeks a Licensed Veterinary Technician to join the Critical Care Service within the Cornell University Hospital for Animals (CUHA). This position plays a key role in supporting clinicians house officers and veterinary students in the care of critically ill and hospitalized patients coordinating advanced diagnostic and therapeutic procedures facilitating client communication and contributing to a collaborative teaching environment. Working closely with experienced Intensive Care LVTs this individual will help deliver high-quality compassionate patient care in a fast-paced 24/7 academic hospital setting while also supporting student learning and cross-service collaboration. The job responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Assist students and clinicians assigned to the Critical Care Service with morning and afternoon patient physical examinations and treatments.
  • Schedule organize set-up and assist with diagnostic and therapeutic procedures performed on patients.
  • Facilitate patient admission and discharge to and from patient care units on behalf of the Critical Care Service.
  • Act as a mentor and teacher for students on rotation
  • Provide floating backup coverage to the nursing care units and other services in the Companion Animal Hospital as determined and assigned by the supervisor.

Employees working in the hospital must receive the pre-exposure rabies prophylaxis vaccination series prior to or immediately after hire which will be paid for by the department.

Required Qualifications

  • Associates degree in veterinary technology and at least 2 years of experience or equivalent combination.
  • New York State licensure or eligibility to become licensed in NYS.
  • Robust clinical skillset including the ability to identify patients in crisis with immediate notification to clinician.
  • Demonstrated ability to promote a positive learning environment for students clinicians and peer technicians.
  • Able to complete work fully and on time.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience with providing intermediate to advanced clinical treatments to hospitalized patients.

Important Details about the Position

  • This is an onsite position located in Ithaca NY.
  • We are unable to provide Visa sponsorship now or in the future for this position.
  • Relocation assistance will not be provided for this position.

While the regular business hours are 8:00 am to 5:00 pm the specific schedule may change to meet the needs of the business requiring employees to work early mornings evenings weekends and University holidays and scheduled breaks.
