Description
The City of Oxnards Fire Department is now hiring an EMT Instructor - Extra Help. The EMT Instructor will perform a combination of EMT educational lectures skills instruction and related administrative duties in support of the Oxnard EMS Corps program.
What Youll Do:
Under direction of the agency EMS Chief:
Prepares and facilitates delivery of the EMS Corps lesson plans Flipped model of EMT instructional content lectures and hands on EMT skills training in a classroom or laboratory setting.
Coordinates with department and partner agency staff to facilitate EMS Corps instruction hands on training drills and lesson plan
Collaborates with program non clinical case manager to help identify student needs and facilitate delivery of wrap around services.
Maintains program related EMT skills lab equipment as needed.
Performs EMS Corps skills related administrative duties and data entry

SUPERVISION RECEIVED/EXERCISED:
This position reports to the EMS ChiefPLEASE NOTE:Extra-Help positions are not expected to last more than 960 hours. Under the terms of the Citys benefits plan and policies this position is not eligible for benefits due to the short duration of this position employment with the City of Oxnard is at will and those selected for temporary placement retain the option as does the City of Oxnard to end employment at any time with or without notice and with or without cause.
Essential Functions
This class specification represents only the core areas of responsibilities; specific position assignments will vary depending on the needs of the Department.
Provides specialized management service support in assigned functional area or program; coordinates reviews and oversees related work and program activities; may work as a liaison with contracted vendors supporting functional programs. May serve as a lead worker assigning and monitoring work completion.
Receives and responds to internal and external customer inquiries. Researches analyzes troubleshoots and provides information and support related to functional area or program assignment.
Coordinates monitors and responds to complex information and record requests; researches related data and information; explains and interprets information related to processes and procedures.
Prepares maintains and updates system information databases tracking systems logs correspondence and/or other related documents; oversees and provides for the maintenance of files records data and functional/program documentation.
Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
The following are theminimumqualifications necessary for entry into the classification:
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- High School Diploma or GED and four (4) years of related experience including two (2) years paraprofessional support experience comparable to an Administrative Services Specialist with the City of Oxnard in field related to area of assignment;OR
- Associates degree (or 60 units) in a related field such as business administration and two (2) years of paraprofessional support experience comparable to an Administrative Services Specialist with the City of Oxnard in field related to area of assignment
LICENSING/CERTIFICATIONS:
Valid California Class C Drivers License with a satisfactory driving record.
American Heart Association Basic Life Support Certification or Equivalent
NAEMSE Level 1 instructor State Fire Marshal instructor 1 certification or ability to obtain.
California Paramedic License
HIGHLY DESIRABLE:
VCEMSA Independent Practice Accreditation
Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification
Advanced Medical Life Support Certification
Pre-Hospital Trauma Life Support Certification
Pediatric Advanced Life Support Certification or Equivalent
Tactical Emergency Casualty Care Certification or equivalent

Employees are required to participate in the Citys direct deposit plan and are paid on a bi-weekly basis.
