About the role
As a Criminal Lawyer you will work across a broad range of criminal matters within a busy and dynamic practice.
With support from senior lawyers you will:
- Represent clients in the Local Court Youth Justice Court and Supreme Court
- Appear in mentions pleas hearings trials and appeals
- Provide high-quality culturally appropriate legal advice
- Travel to remote communities for circuit courts
- Contribute to law reform advocacy and strategic litigation initiatives
- Work collaboratively with legal administrative and client service teams
This role is ideal for a recently admitted lawyer or someone with up to 2 years experience looking to build strong courtroom skills in a supportive environment.
What youll bring
- Admission (or eligibility) as a legal practitioner in the Northern Territory
- A strong interest in criminal law
- Understanding of the justice issues impacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people
- Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully across cultures
- Strong organisational skills and ability to manage competing priorities
- Willingness to travel to remote communities
- A collaborative team-focused mindset
Youll also need:
- A current drivers licence
- Ability to obtain an Ochre Card (Working with Children Clearance)
- A satisfactory criminal history check
