In this role the Office Assistant 2 supports the Parks and Recreation Specialized Recreation team at the Lakewood Community Center by serving as a welcoming and reliable front-desk presence. Responsibilities include answering phones greeting and assisting clients and providing general office and clerical support such as printing supply ordering and maintaining organized workflows. You will help manage the ActiveNet registration system process customer payments and refunds and support facility rentals and special events with related payment tasks. Additionally you will contribute to the human resources processes and assist with recruiting and monitoring hours as one of our HR Partners. You will help ensure smooth and inclusive operations for staff and community members alike.

Specialized Recreation is a program that facilitates a variety of fun exciting and safe social and recreational activities for people with disabilities in our community. We are seeking someone who excels in a dynamic environment with many competing priorities and a diverse community of customers. Strong respectful communication skills are important especially when engaging with individuals from varied backgrounds including people with disabilities developmental needs or different social norms.

Your Future in this Role:

This position is part of an Office Assistant series that offers a great foundation for future positions within the Parks and Recreation Department and Pierce County. You will receive on-the-job training from Parks and Recreation Administrative staff as well as developmental training through Human Resources. Additionally you will have access to LinkedIn Learning to further your growth as an administrative professional.

Core Daily Responsibilities:

  • Receive and process routine to moderately complex forms and applications i.e. determines regulatory or procedural compliance; computes or verifies data fees or payments; assists in the proper completion of forms or documents; and researches governing directives to answer questions and resolve routine problems encountered. May also provide information and advice in response to questions raised by the public served.
  • Perform receptionist and general office duties; respond to routine inquiries by telephone or person-to-person; fulfill requests for publications or office supplies.
  • Take minutes at meetings. Operate standard office equipment such as copiers typewriters personal computers or word processors postage machines calculators and recorders. May verify code and proofread input and output data.
  • Maintain regular predictable and punctual attendance during regularly scheduled work hours at assigned worksite.
  • Organize maintain and retrieve information and documents from files and records.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Additional education or related experience may substitute for the recruiting requirements.
  • One year of general clerical work experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Experience utilizing a computer and operating standard office systems especially Microsoft Office.

Special Requirements/Qualifications

  • This position may require you to work some special events on weekends and evenings.
