Job Title: Child Nutrition Meal Application Specialist (Bilingual Required)

PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Facilitate the efficient operation of the student nutrition office meal benefit application and verification process for the district and provide clerical services to the office.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification
High school diploma or GED required
Valid TX Drivers License required
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Proficient skills in typing word processing and file maintenance
Effective communication and interpersonal skills
Basic math skills
Basic knowledge in Microsoft Systems
Bilingual Spanish Required
Preferred Experience:
Minimum three years of successful secretarial or clerical experience preferably in a related field or equivalent Child Nutrition experience in a public school district that processes meal applications.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
- Keep informed and comply with all state and district policies and regulations.
- Serve as the receptionist; greet and route visitors to the Child Nutrition Office.
- Responsible for the organization management and maintenance of the Meal Benefit Program.
- Serve as the contact person for the Meal Benefit Program for the public and the schools.
- Process all eligibility determinations for meal benefits and follow-up with incomplete applications according to departments guidelines. This includes:
- Receive check for completion scan and verify all meal benefit applications daily. Maintain application files by batches.
- Download and process online applications batches several times a day.
- Provide assistance to the public when completing online applications on-site.
- Process all homeless foster and migrant applications daily per districts liaison request.
- Responsible for notification of Meal Benefit Status to households applying for meal benefits.
- Process and manage direct certification list monthly and match siblings accordingly.
- Assist Student Nutrition Director with preparation and distribution of the required public release yearly annual application mailing.
- Responsible for the verification of applications according to USDA/TDA regulations.
- Assist parents with school Café accounts and answer questions about student accounts.
- Assist in entering weekly orders for department.
- Maintain records pertaining to training hours for the department.
- Serve as back-up for the Child Nutrition Secretary.
- Assist parents staff with questions through phone email or in person. Provide courteous and prompt response.
- Attend Region 10 required trainings on free and reduced applications verification etc. as needed and assigned.
- Work districts pre-k round up yearly in July to process applications.
- Assist at school cafeterias as needed and assigned by Child Nutrition Director.
- Maintain confidentiality of information.
- Assist with new employee interviews and onboarding as needed for department.
- Perform any other duties as assigned by Child Nutrition Director.
Professional Development
- Complete a minimum of 6 hours of required Continued Education/Training annually.
