Job Summary

Support Worker & Community Connector Burton

We are seeking a consistent grounded and values-driven support worker to walk alongside a man in his thirties supporting him to build a meaningful connected and independent life within his community.

About the Person: A friendlyobservant and witty man with a great sense of humour who enjoys being aroundpeople especially those he knows and trusts. The person we support takes pridein contributing to his community is passionate about helping others andvalues feeling useful appreciated and connected.

This persons interests include:

  • Bowling (10-pin & carpet) Disc Golf
  • Music (including creating music and piano & guitar)
  • Hiking Staying Active Outdoors & Local Swimming Pools
  • Bird-watching Collecting & Identifying Feathers
  • Hosting Events Celebrations & BBQs & Giving Thoughtful Gifts to Others
  • Community Group Activities or Social Clubs

About the Role: This is not a care role in thetraditional sense. Its about building capacity modelling everyday lifeskills & creating opportunities for genuine participation in communitylife.

You will:

  • Provide support that builds confidence independence & everyday living skills
  • Use real-life situations to guide decision-making communication & socialunderstanding
  • Help develop routines around personal care cooking & healthy living
  • Support safe & meaningful community engagement
  • Build a consistent trusting relationship with both the person & the family

Pay: This role commences at level 2.1 Casual Rate: $43.23/hour

Hours: 12 hours per week Thursday & Friday: 9:00am 3:00pm

Structure: Thursday support should include activities such as beingoutdoors hiking disc golf bird watching or similar. Its important that the activitiesare intentional valuable & purposeful and should be intended to buildcapacity skills confidence & independence.

A key part of this role includes supporting this person in volunteering for hisbrothers business on Fridays to collect bottles & cans and take them tothe nearby recycling depot. This means you will need to be comfortable withtransporting the bottles & cans in your own vehicle.

All applicants must have or be willing to obtain:

  • Drivers licence and reliable vehicle
  • NDIS Worker Check (or willingness to obtain)
  • First Aid Certificate

In this role you will be supported by your Facilitator who will guide you with ongoing coaching & mentoring with the person and their family central to that process.

Youll also need to:

  • Be comfortable using your own vehicle for community access and transporting recycling (bottles & cans)
  • Confidently & positively support navigating social situation
  • Recognise and respond to anxiety communication differences and support emotionalregulation
