  • Type of Employment: Full-Time 40 hours per week.
  • Period of Performance: Estimated start date: 15 July 2026 30 April 2031.
  • Estimate Pay: $30.73 $35.82 per hour.
  • Paid Time Off: Up to 80 hours per year which starts accruing on the day of hire.
  • Sick Leave per Year: Up to 56 hours per year which starts occurring on the day of hire.
  • Paid Federal Holidays: Eleven (11) Paid Federal Holidays

Working Hours

The Radiologic Technologist will normally work Monday through Friday from 7:30 am to 3:00 pm with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break except on Federal holidays. Radiology Technologists will not work more than 40 hours a week.

Qualifications

  • Must have an unrestricted state license to practice in the state of West Virginia as a Radiological Technologist.
  • Be a graduate from an accredited school or program for a Radiological Technologist.
  • Be registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • A minimum of three (3) years of Radiological Technologist experience.
  • Must be Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certified either by the American Red Cross (ARC)or the American Heart Association (AHA).

Attire

The Radiologic Technologists must wear appropriate professional attire (scrub uniforms are always approved). The attire worn shall also be appropriate for the correctional environment in which the Bureau of Prisons employee will be performing. Radiologic Technologists must not wear khaki or green clothing of any kind as these are the colors worn by the Adults in Custody (AIC).

Duties and Responsibilities

  • The current radiological equipment provided is a digital machine.
  • Perform routine radiologic procedures ordered by the medical staff for the inmate population at the institution.
  • Performing routine radiology and mammography services to AIC as referred by BOP Health Services Staff.
  • Maintaining the radiology and mammography equipment through required services performed by contracting services.
  • Independently performing all radiographic and mammographic procedures i.e. chest bone skull spine knee back etc.
  • Notify the Radiologist or referring Physician of any preliminary abnormalities seen while the patient is undergoing an exam so that additional views or exams can be ordered if needed.
  • Maintaining confidentiality and privacy of medical information in the radiology department and medical conditions of the AIC and staff.
  • Notifying the clinical director or physician of any preliminary abnormalities seen while the patient is undergoing an exam so that additional views or exams can be ordered if needed.
  • Providing assistance with medical staff duties assigned such as scanning of medical records maintaining radiology badges monitoring sanitation in the health services area and assisting in improving the Organization Plan.
  • Explaining appropriate instructions to the AIC who undergoes radiology procedures.
  • Maintaining mammography accreditation and related standards.
  • Evaluating radiographic equipment for calibrations and repairs and informing the HSA if repairs or calibrations are needed.
  • Ensuring there has been an inspection for defects performed twice per year for gloves aprons and shields and those inspections are signed off by the clinical director and the HSA.
  • Transmit retrieve X-ray images and report electronically and scan reports into the Adults in Custody (AICs) Bureau Electronic Medical Record (BEMR).
  • Independently assess and select technical exposure factors and positions necessary to obtain a proper quality diagnostic exam.
