High School Art Teacher

Summary

Kairos Academies is seeking a dynamic creative and student focused Art Teacher to join our team of experienced educators. The Art Teacher will be responsible for procuring art materials preparing instructional materials and delivering rigorous age-appropriate art lessons across multiple disciplines including drawing painting sculpture mixed media and digital art. At Kairos all teachers are leaders: you will not only teach your content area but also take on whole school service roles that shape our culture strengthen student development and deepen connections with families and the broader community.

Key Responsibilities

Curriculum & Instruction
  • Adapt and implement a rigorous standards aligned art curriculum across multiple media and techniques.
  • Develop academically rigorous lessons unit plans rubrics and assessments that build technical skill and creative expression.
  • Differentiate for diverse learners including EL and neurodiverse students.
  • Embed data driven goals SEL strategies and restorative practices in every lesson.
Exhibitions& Showcases
  • Lead planning and execution of at least two major art exhibitions or showcases per year (one per semester).
  • Coordinate student participation in community art projects and external competitions.
  • Collaborate with student leadership and community partners to display student work.
Assessment & Feedback
  • Utilize formative (peer critiques progress checkpoints) and summative (portfolio reviews exhibitions) assessments to monitor growth.
  • Deliver timely actionable feedback prioritizing both technical proficiency and creative expression.
  • Give students daily feedback on their performance and plan for individual learning needs.
Classroom & Studio Culture
  • Build a positive respectful studio environment where creativity risk taking and accountability flourish.
  • Embody and maintain the schools values policies and culture.
  • Manage inventory and safety of art supplies and equipment; oversee budget requests.
  • Effectively manage a classroom with up to 25 students.
Whole School Leadership
  • Serve on committees (events culture family engagement) and mentor students in leadership roles.
  • Partner with colleagues in English Music Theatre and College & Career to create interdisciplinary projects.
  • Build positive relationships with students families teachers and staff.
  • Maintain strong communication with all parents and share progress.
Mentoring
  • Facilitate student Circle once a week as well as participate in all staff Circle once a week.
  • Monitor your mentor groups academic and behavior progress and support students in setting and reaching ambitious academic and character development goals.
  • Provide guidance and support on students self-discovery work.
  • Serve as a direct point of contact for Kairos families to communicate school wide information.
Professional Growth
  • Participate in PLCs attend conferences and share best practices.
  • Reflect on data and student feedback to refine instruction each cycle.

Qualifications

  • Degree: Bachelors required; Masters preferred
  • Certification: Valid Missouri content related teaching certification (or willingness to certify ASAP)
  • Experience: 3 years ofhigh school teaching preferred
  • Skills: Strong content mastery in visual arts; proven ability to use data to drive instruction
  • Other: Eligible to work for any employer in the U.S; pass criminal background check
