Position Summary
The Lincoln County Juvenile department is looking to add a Youth Care Specialist 1 to our Youth Tides team. This person will perform professional care and monitoring of youth activities in a multiple purpose Juvenile Shelter. This role is also responsible for monitoring daily activities of youth placed in the Facility and other programs and providing 24-hour intake duties for all referred youth during shift.
$23.44 - $26.38 per hour*

Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities
Supervise the daily activities of youth: - Provide for the physical safety nourishment cleanliness and supervision of all youth admitted.
- Maintain the overall upkeep of the facility and participates in meal preparation.
- Supervise and instruct youth in expected daily living leisure and work activities.
- Maintain discipline order respect for authority and desirable patterns of conduct.
- Ensure youth receive educational instruction and health care.
- Monitor facility diligently to ensure against youth misconduct runaways safety hazards accidents or fire.
- Promote a positive environment within the facility.
- Confront consequences and redirects youth in a positive manner using trauma-informed care principles or other evidence-based practices adopted by the department.
- Perform initial 24-hour intake screening duties for all youth referred during shift.
- Confer with Juvenile Probation Officers regarding detention decisions.
- Complete intake duties of all youth admitted to the facility.
- Transport youth as needed.

Complete intake forms and document youth activities: - Complete documentation and forms regarding admission and releases.
- Report individual behavior and performance as observed.
- Report shift activities. Informs personnel on incoming shift of facility status.
- Maintain youth files according to department standards.

Inspect clean and monitor the facility: - Inspect and ensures the facility is clean and equipment is in working order.
Report any needed repairs to supervisor. - Instruct youth in proper housekeeping practices and maintenance of their living areas.

Attend staff training and meetings: - Attend team or shift meetings.
- Maintain certification in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (CPI).
- Maintain required certifications for a Food Handlers license and First Aid & CPR.

Typical Qualifications
EDUCATION
High School Diploma / GED
EXPERIENCE
Six months of experience in work dealing with youth preferably in a group or correctional setting.
CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSES
Food Handlers Certificate; Certified in First Aid and CPR.
Oregon Drivers License required within 30 days of hire.
DESIRABLE
Certified in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention (CPI).
Knowledge of/Ability to:- Knowledge of behavior and adjustment problems in youth. Knowledge of juvenile laws and Department of Human Services Administrative Rules in the State of Oregon.
- Secure the confidence and cooperation of facility staff other agencies public officials and community.
- Physical capability to interact with others and intervene in possible physical disputes.
- Maintain proper control by anticipating and preventing acts of violence by youths admitted to the facility.
- Detain youth and utilize hand waist and leg restraints.
- Work as a team with coworkers in rotating shifts in a 24-hour facility.
