The Corporate Counsel Construction position provides legal guidance and support across the organization to ensure compliance with laws regulations and company policies.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Draft review analyze and negotiate construction related contracts
Collaborate with project teams and corporate leadership to identify risks and mitigate exposure
Assist with development of affirmative claims and defense of claims against the company
Act as internal support to outside counsel on construction related matters (investigation collection of information response to litigation related requests development of case strategy etc.)
Provide legal guidance to corporate leadership on various construction and risk related matters
Provide internal training to project teams on a variety of legal and risk management topics
Provide support for Sr. Corporate Counsel and Chief Legal Officer as needed
Other duties as may be assigned

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Juris Doctorate Degree (undergraduate degree in engineering or construction management preferred)
Active Tennessee law license with no record of discipline (TN state bar licensure a plus)
Minimum of 3 years as a licensed and practicing attorney either in private practice or in-house
Construction law experience (contracts and litigation)

Strong initiative flexibility and ability to prioritize and meet deadlines
Ability to excel in a fast-paced environment both independently and in a team setting
Excellent verbal and written communication interpersonal and management skills
Ability to effectively communicate complex legal concepts to non-attorney team members
