An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Chief of Technology Propulsors/Fans to join Group R&T in Future Programmes Research and Technology (R&T). This is a Senior Leadership role is reporting into the Chief Engineer - Future Programmes and R&T.
The Chief of Technology Propulsors/Fans will develop and execute the technology programme for the product system aligned with the future product strategy. You will drive innovation and deliver differentiated technologies via efficient PV (private venture) and geared funded programmes.
You will work with the relevant capability leads in ET&S to assign suitably qualified people and will approve business activities/technical programmes within the remit of the propulsor / fan product system.
What you will be doing:
The Chief of Technology Propulsors/Fans will provide technical leadership to the Engineering resource group and ensure compliance to and throughout the C2 Acquire Technology process:
- Identify the relevant requirements for product system improvements and technology innovations
- Working cross-functionally and with the businesses create comprehensive technology roadmaps to plan group-wide early TRL capability to support business requirements
- Secure PV and externally geared funding to support R&T development plans
- Govern R&T funded projects and programmes across the business and manage external stakeholder engagement
- Work with the businesses to identify and establish external partners where possible to support technology development plans(TDPs)
- Support the development of the UTC/AxRC network and associated R&T funded projects/PhDs/EngDs
- Ensure that all technologies developed and deployed within the business are in full compliance to Health Safety & Environmental Standards and meet the expectations of the Zero Harm programme.
- Ensure that process risks which may lead to deviation from the engineering specification are understood for all technologies developed and deployed in the businesses and for promoting a product safety culture in the organisation.
- Create a culture of zero defects within the organisation. Ensure that all technologies within the business are developed and deployed to promote Right First Time manufacture.
- Ensure compliance to all relevant company legislative and technical policies and standards.
- Act as professional leader within the business ensuring required competences are in place and promoting the development and growth drive accountability and enablement through engagement and coaching team members so that everyone can be at their best.
Preferred requirements:
- Professionally qualified Engineer (UK minimum BEng degree or other national equivalent)
- Broad understanding of Compressor Technologies
- Leadership experience within a research and development environment
- Experience of establishing clear vision and strategy and securing business sponsorship
- Proven track record of delivering projects/activities in an NPI or R&T area
- Broad experience of complex manufacturing and/or materials projectsespecially Composites
- Experience of managing complex teams with direct & indirect resources
- Proven track record of operating within a highly collaborative environment with internal and external stakeholders and partners
- Excellent communication skills with ability to engage effectively across the organisation
- Experience of managing business and technical risks
