The Department of Corrections Division of Administration & Support is recruiting for an Accounting Technician 3 position located in Juneau Alaska.

What You Will Be Doing:
Under general direction from the Accounting Technician 4 and in coordination with the Accountant 4 this position processes the Department of Corrections Reimbursable Services Agreements (RSAs) and contracts to ensure accurate and timely processing of transactions. Processes inter and intra agency transactions and billings processes payments for services or commodities received from multiple vendors and approvals of financial transactions in accordance with the Alaska Administrative Manual Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and Department Policies and Procedures.

Who We Are Looking For:
We are interested in candidates who possess some or all of the following position specific competencies:
  • Accounting: Knowledge of traditional accounting practices including accrual obligations and costs methods.
  • Attention to Detail: Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
  • Computer Skills: Uses computers software applications databases and automated systems to accomplish work.
  • Analytical Thinking/Problem Solving: uses a logical systematic sequential approach to address problems or opportunities or manage a situation by drawing on ones knowledge and experience base and calling on other references and resources as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications

Two years of technical level accounting or bookkeeping experience of which at least one year was at the full-proficiency level.


Substitutions:

Certification as an Accounting Technician from an accredited college will substitute for one year of the required experience at the non-full-proficiency level.


Post secondary education from an accredited college will substitute for up to one year of the required experience at the non-full-proficiency level (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month) if it includes at least 6 semester/8 quarter hours in Accounting.


Post secondary education from an accredited college will substitute for the required two years of experience (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month) if it includes at least 9 semester/12 quarter hours at or above the 200 level in Accounting.


An associates degree in Accounting or Business Administration from an accredited college will substitute for the required two years of experience if it includes at least 6 semester/8 quarter hours at or above the 200 level in Accounting.

It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.

Please be aware this position requires the use of the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN). A security clearance issued by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) is necessary to use APSIN. DPS will deny security clearance for any applicant who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor in this state or another jurisdiction or who may be a fugitive from justice. Additionally security clearance will be withdrawn if DPS discovers that material information was falsified or omitted at the time of the initial application for security clearance.
