Toast is looking for a Machine Learning Engineer to join the AI team. The ideal candidate has a solid track record in the product-oriented development and deployment of machine learning models. As an Machine Learning Engineer II you will work with a team of machine learning engineers data scientists partner engineering team and product managers to build machine learning pipelines and deploy models for product lines.

About this Roll*:

• Collaborate with machine learning engineers and data scientists to design and build scalable ML and agentic AI pipelines develop APIs and implement microservices with a strong focus on latency reliability and performance
• Drive engineering excellence by enforcing best practices in version control code reviews testing and documentation contributing to a high-quality and maintainable codebase
• Stay up to date with emerging tools technologies and best practices across ML engineering and cloud infrastructure and actively contribute to continuous improvement within the team
• Monitor debug and optimize model performance and production infrastructure ensuring robustness scalability and efficiency
• Contribute effectively in an agile development environment embracing iterative delivery ownership and continuous learning
• Partner closely with cross-functional stakeholders (product managers engineers and data teams) to deliver reliable high-impact ML-powered products

Do you have the right ingredients*

Basic Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Computer Science Engineering or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience)
• 25 years of industry experience building and deploying machine learning systems in production environments

Technical Skills

• Strong programming skills in Python Java/Kotlin PySpark.
• Hands-on experience with ML frameworks such as scikit-learn TensorFlow or PyTorch
• Experience designing and deploying microservices-based architectures preferably on AWS (e.g. SageMaker DynamoDB Athena Glue Iceberg)

ML Engineering & Systems

• Hand on experience with MLOps best practices: CI/CD pipelines version control (Git) testing (TDD) experiment tracking (MLflow) and workflow orchestration
• Experience with model deployment orchestration (e.g. Apache Airflow) and scalable infrastructure including efficient CPU/GPU utilization
• Solid understanding of end-to-end ML lifecycle: data ingestion feature engineering model training evaluation deployment and monitoring

Software Engineering & Collaboration

• Strong foundation in software engineering principles including object-oriented design modularity and maintainability
• Proven ability to work in cross-functional teams and communicate technical concepts effectively
