Job Summary
The Commercial Underwriter plays a key role within the Group Underwriting Department acting as a business partner to commercial teams worldwide. The Commercial Underwriter is responsible for analysing complex commercial underwriting requests notably derogation requests related to new business and policy renewals and ensuring profitable and compliant growth at Group level across all client segments (Financial Institutions Large Multinational and Mid Market companies).
The role also encompaseses responsibilities for commercial underwriting activites conducted on behalf of the Coface Llyods Syndicate ensuring full adherence to Lloyds market standards delegated authorities and Coface Group underwriting governance.
Operating in a highly international and multicultural environment the Commercial Underwriter contributes to underwriting governance contractual expertise and the continuous enhancement of the Groups commercial underwriting framework.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyse and manage derogation requests related to credit insurance policies for new business and renewals. Ensure that underwriting decisions support profitable growth at Group level and comply with Group rules policies and risk appetite.
- Present underwriting analyses and recommendations to management bodies when required. Maintain close alignment with Risk Underwriting teams to ensure consistency between commercial and risk perspectives.
- Ensure that contractual wordings are Group-approved and compliant with local legal and regulatory frameworks.
- Act as a trusted business partner for sales teams account managers and regional teams by providing expert guidance on underwriting and contractual matters.
- Support commercial negotiations by balancing client needs pricing and risk exposure.
- Contribute to the dissemination and understanding of Commercial Underwriting rules and practices across countries.
- Actively participate in Group and IT projects related to commercial underwriting and offer development. Support process improvements harmonisation initiatives and digital transformation projects impacting commercial underwriting activities.
Qualifications :
- Masters degree (or equivalent) in Finance BUsiness Admnistration Economics Bank Insurance or Legal Studies
- Minimum 3 years of professional experience in trade cerdit insurance banking or factoring within a commercial underwriting sales / account management claims legal or risk-related functions
- Strong knowledge of the credit insurance industry and commercial underwriting practices.
- Solid understanding of contract structures and negotiation between pricing risk and commercial constraints.
- Good awareness of economic and market environments and their impact on risk.
- Strong analytical and synthesis skills with high attention to detail.
- Ability to manage priorities in a demanding and fast-paced environment.
- Previous experience in an international and multicultural corporate environment is a strong asset

- Fluent in English and French (both written and spoken).
- Additional languages are considered a plus.
