This role requires employees to complete an online Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) including The Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) checks for criminal convictions and possibly a search of open source data.
The Role
As an Electrical / Electronic Engineer you will act as the technical expert for major elements of the MAST-U Tokamak pulsed power supplies plant supporting the safe operation maintenance and continuous improvement of critical fusion energy systems.
You will lead plant-related activities including maintenance fault finding repairs refurbishments and upgrade projects ensuring systems operate safely efficiently and in line with operational requirements.
Acting as a Plant Responsible Officer (PRO) you will advise operational teams and managers on plant performance limitations and improvements while maintaining accurate technical documentation and supporting the development and training of staff.
Alongside supporting large-scale engineering projects you will also undertake rostered operational duties taking responsibility for the safe performance of complex plant systems using diagnostic analytical and problem-solving techniques to identify issues and support timely resolutions.
Additionally you will:
- Train and support staff working with pulsed power electrical systems.
- Apply technical expertise in high-current and high-voltage power systems.
- Review technical documentation and supplier specifications.
- Ensure compliance with relevant safety and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications :
Essential Requirements:
To be considered as an Electrical / Electronic Engineer you will need:
- A high level of experience in the design installation and commissioning of electrical/electronic systems and high voltage high power conversion systems in an industrial environment
- Experience of electrical/electronic safety systems and procedures
- Experience preparing safety documentation
- Experience in component sub-system and system level fault-finding
- Proven experience in the installation and commissioning of C&I systems
- Proven experience in project planning including resource and cost profiling
- Proven experience in an operational control room
- Proven leadership experience in managing technical teams and projects
- Specialist knowledge of a wide variety of Magnetic Coil Neutral Beam and RF Heating Power Supply systems
- Knowledge of 18th Edition Wiring Regulations BS7671
- Knowledge of Construction Design and Management Regulations Works Supervision
- A degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or equivalent or to be qualified by experience
- IOSH Managing Safety qualification Risk Assessment and Work Control
- To have achieved or be working towards professional registration
