Job Summary

  • Employment Type: Full Time (35 hours per week)
  • Duration:12 month Fixed Term Contract
  • Remuneration: Level 7 from $113k 17% superannuation & leave loading
  • Location: Kensington NSW (3 days campus based each week)

Why your role matters

You will champion their wellbeing safety and sense of belonging through a mix of proactive programs trauma-informed case management and compliance support. Working closely with internal teams and external partners youll deliver culturally responsive initiatives that boost mental health social inclusion and academic success. This role requires navigating complex student needs applying university policy and legislation and contributing to continuous improvements in student support systems.

Reporting to the Lead of International Student Compliance youll play a pivotal role in shaping a supportive and inclusive experience for students from all over the accountabilities include:

  • Provide case management services and subject matter expertise to assist with international student incidents or behaviors of concern including effective early intervention education and support programs that promote student safety and well-being.
  • Plan implement and evaluate culturally responsive wellbeing initiatives for international students focusing on preventative information mental health literacy and social inclusion.
  • Engage students through consultation advisory forums and feedback loops to co-design programs and events that reflect their needs.
  • Develop proactive strategies to mitigate behaviours of concern and promote student safety and wellbeing.

About You:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in psychology social work counselling or trauma informed care with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education training and experience.
  • Ability to speak a language other than English relevant to the UNSW community is desirable but not essential.
  • Experience successfully managing complex cases involving multiple stakeholders in a large and complex organisation.
  • Demonstrated understanding and ability to provide expert guidance and advice on a range of issues impacting international student welfare participation retention and success within the higher education sector.
  • Sound judgment and an advanced level of emotional intelligence with demonstrated ability to empathise and provide specialised advice to clients with a broad range of needs especially in relation to dealing with highly sensitive confidential and potentially controversial matters with tact sensitivity and respect.
  • Advanced interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to advise and communicate effectively and influencing a wide range of diverse stakeholders including delivering presentations and training as well as mediation and conflict resolution.
  • Proven experience providing high quality support programs or service delivery to people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Capacity to support international students to navigate administrative and relevant governmental processes in a complex environment consult and influence stakeholders and advocate on behalf of students.

This role requires the successful candidate to hold a valid paid Working with Childrens Check & complete a Police Check.
