SQL Database Administrator

Job Description

A leading organisation is recruiting for a highly skilled SQL Database Administrator to take ownership of its Microsoft SQL Server environment. This opportunity is ideal for a technical expert with extensive experience in database operations high availability disaster recovery and performance optimisation. The successful candidate will play a critical role in ensuring the stability security and efficiency of enterprise database systems while collaborating with cross-functional technical teams.

Responsibilities:

• Manage maintain and optimise Microsoft SQL Server databases to ensure high availability security and peak performance.
• Develop test and manage backup recovery replication and disaster recovery strategies.
• Oversee SQL clustering Always-On Availability Groups database mirroring and multi-node SQL environments.
• Monitor database performance troubleshoot incidents and implement proactive improvements.
• Collaborate with developers project managers and ICT teams to support business-critical systems and projects.
• Ensure governance compliance documentation and standard operating procedures are maintained and up to date.
• Plan and execute DBMS upgrades patching and infrastructure enhancements.
• Support capacity planning licence optimisation and budget management within the SQL environment.

Requirements:

• Bachelors degree in Computer Science Information Systems or a related field.
• 710 years experience working with Microsoft Server and Microsoft SQL.
• Relevant Microsoft SQL certifications or equivalent industry-recognised qualifications.
• Advanced expertise in SQL Server administration performance tuning and database security.
• Strong experience with SQL Always-On Availability Groups database mirroring and disaster recovery planning.
• Experience managing SQL Datawarehouse systems and multi-node SQL clusters.
• Solid understanding of database architecture infrastructure integration and MSSQL-supported protocols such as REST SOAP ODBC JDBC and ODBO.
• Strong analytical problem-solving and risk management skills.
• XML knowledge will be advantageous.
