Job Summary

This is a new post acting as a Service Complaints Decision Body dealing specifically with complaints relating to Career Management. It is offered on FTRS (HC) Reserve Staff Group TACOS as detailed in the Reserve Land Forces Regulations.

The postholder must decide Service Complaints on behalf of the Army Board / Defence Council in accordance with JSP 831. As such they must write SC determinations taking appropriate advice where necessary and where they find that a complainant has been wronged must identify suitable redress within delegated powers including financial redress.
Roles and Responsibilities include:
Deciding on Career Management Service Complaints within prescribed timelines.
Identifying lessons for improvement and making recommendations for the development of Service Complaint and Career Management policies and processes.
Exploiting Continuing Professional Development opportunities to maintain competency as a Service Complaints Decision Body.
Conduct secondary duties and tasks as required by the SC Secretary.

The Decision Body is a critical appointment within the SC system and is a very individual responsibility. They are responsible in law for their determination including at Employment Tribunal and Judicial Review. The decisions that they make will have profound consequences on the individuals involved and on the institution. These decisions and determinations are binding and irrevocable unless overturned by either a formally appointed Appeal Body or by the Armed Forces Commissioner.
