Position Description:

In partnership with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Alpena Fish and Wildlife Conservation Office is seeking a local candidate to assist station Biologists with local fisheries scientific surveys. Most days will be in the field as weather allows including boat and wading work. Intern will have the opportunity to work with all divisions of the office including supporting staff activities at outreach events. Opportunities to assist other stations on a short-term basis will be available.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist station Biologists with ongoing data collection and fisheries assessment/sampling utilizing a variety of active and passive sampling techniques.

  • Assist Partners for Fish and Wildlife Coordinator with a variety of habitat management activities.

  • Provide support for station outreach activities

Qualifications:

Relevant majors: Biology fisheries environmental science wildlife management or related field.

  • Interest in a career in the Natural Resources field

  • Ability to lift 40 lbs.

  • Ability to walk on uneven surfaces

  • Willingness to work outside in inclement weather

  • Willingness to work in a team atmosphere

  • Reliable transportation to and from work is required
