The Burlington School District is seeking a K5 Instructional Coach to support high-quality teaching and learning across our elementary schools. This role partners directly with educators to strengthen instructional practices and improve student outcomes through coaching collaboration and data-informed decision-making.
This is a non-evaluative non-supervisory role focused on building teacher capacity.
The position is structured as:
- 80% Instructional Coaching
- 20% Direct Student Intervention (MTSS-aligned)
Essential Functions
Instructional Coaching (Primary Focus)
- Partner with teachers in confidential coaching cycles (goal setting observation modeling reflection)
- Provide demonstration lessons co-teaching and instructional modeling
- Support implementation of evidence-based instructional strategies
- Facilitate reflective conversations to promote continuous improvement
Collaborative Planning & Data Use
- Support Professional Learning Communities (PLCs)
- Help teams analyze student data to inform instruction
- Co-design standards-aligned lessons and interventions
- Monitor student progress and adjust instructional approaches
Professional Learning
- Plan and lead professional development sessions
- Support implementation of district curriculum and instructional frameworks
- Share research-based practices and resources
School Improvement
- Collaborate with school leaders on Continuous Improvement Plans (CIP)
- Participate in Instructional Leadership Teams (ILT) and EST
- Support rollout of instructional initiatives
Direct Student Support
- Provide small-group and 1:1 intervention in literacy and/or math
- Deliver Tier 2 and Tier 3 MTSS interventions
- Monitor progress and adjust instruction using data
- Align intervention work with classroom instruction
Minimum Qualifications
- Valid Vermont teaching license with appropriate endorsement (elementary level)
- Minimum 5 years of successful teaching experience
- Demonstrated impact on student achievement especially with diverse learners

- 46 coaching cycles per trimester
- Regular facilitation of PLCs

- Evidence of improved instructional practices and student outcomes
EMPLOYMENT BENEFITS/TERMS:
- SALARY:As per theMaster Agreementbetween the Burlington Board of School Commissioners and the Burlington Education Association. This is a salaried position paidBi-Weekly with a lump sum payment for the summer period.
- SCHOOL YEAR:10 months 187 workdays (based on start date) 7.75 per day/38.75 per week
