WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
Were looking for a motivated accounting student eager to gain hands-on experience in manufacturing plant accounting. This internship is a fantastic opportunity to get deep into fixed asset accountingfrom tracking physical equipment on the plant floor to building the documentation that keeps our records accurate and audit-ready.
No prior professional accounting experience requiredjust curiosity drive and a foundational understanding of accounting principles from your coursework.
WHAT YOU GET TO DO:
Youll be embedded with the Plant Accounting team working on real projects alongside experienced accountants. Heres what your internship will look like:
Fixed Asset Register & Accounting
Help maintain and update the fixed asset register including acquisitions transfers and disposals
Assist with recording depreciation and learn how impairment is evaluated under ASC 360
Support the Corporate Fixed Asset Accounting team on cross-functional reporting tasks
Asset Tagging & Physical Audits
Participate in hands-on asset tagging of manufacturing equipment on the plant floor
Assist with periodic physical audits to verify asset locations and condition against the register
Help investigate and resolve discrepancies between physical counts and system records
Learn and apply company asset tagging policies and procedures to ensure compliance
Process Documentation
Draft and refine step-by-step process documentation for fixed asset tagging workflows
Create clear audit-ready procedures for asset acquisitions transfers and disposals
Map current-state processes and identify gaps or inconsistencies in existing documentation
Build reusable templates and checklists that the team can use beyond the internship
Collaborate with senior accountants to capture institutional knowledge in written form
General Accounting & Analysis
Assist with journal entries and month-end close activities related to fixed assets
Work with the Financial Planning & Analysis team on budgeting and forecasting tasks
Support projects related to preparing Slate for public company reporting requirements
Identify opportunities to improve accuracy and efficiency in plant accounting processes
Internship Capstone: Leadership Presentation
Your internship culminates in a final presentation to Slates Finance and Plant Accounting leadership. This is your moment to showcase the real impact youve made. Youll present:
A summary of the fixed asset tagging work you completed and what you learned on the plant floor
The process documentation you developedwalking leadership through the workflows you built or improved
Key findings from physical audits including any discrepancies identified and how they were resolved
Your recommendations for further process improvements with practical next steps
Personal reflections on your growth as an accounting professional over the course of the internship
This presentation is a real deliverablenot a formality. Its an opportunity to demonstrate analytical thinking communication skills and the kind of ownership mindset we value at Slate.
What Youll Learn

How to document accounting processes clearly enough to be audit-ready

WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TEAM:
Currently pursuing a B.S. in Accounting or Finance (junior or senior preferred)
Completed at least Intermediate Accounting I (familiarity with debits credits and the accounting cycle)
Strong attention to detail and eagerness to learn
Good organizational skillsability to manage multiple tasks without dropping the ball
Clear communicator both in writing and in person
Strong ethics and integrity (a must in accounting!)
Bonus: prior coursework or exposure to fixed asset accounting
Nice to Have (But Not Required)
Familiarity with accounting software such as QuickBooks SAP or Oracle
Experience writing process documentation SOPs or procedure guides
Comfort with Excel (PivotTables VLOOKUPs basic formulas)
CPA exam eligibility in progress or planned
