June 29th - August 6th
7:30 am - 2:30 pm
Monday - Thursday
Subject to change based on student enrollment; start and stop times
Organizational Relationshipor Line of Authority:
Works under the supervision of the Summer Health Services Coordinator Director of Health and Nursing Services and/or his/ her designee.
Statement of Duties:
Health Assistants will support the functions of the school health office. Health Assistants will assist school nurse in:
Promoting and maintaining optimal physical and emotional health of students and staff.
Monitoring and supporting of students in medical waiting areas until
parent/guardian/emergency contact picks of child.
Escorting of students to and from health office.
Maintaining health records and document pertinent information and assisting with data
entry.
Maintaining confidentiality of students medical issues.
Supporting Activities of Daily living for all children.
Health Assistant will provide support at one or more schools.
Qualifications:
Current Massachusetts State Certified Nursing Assistant Certification preferred.
CPR certification.
Certificate/degree from a CNA program.
One year of experience as CNA or Health Assistant preferred.
High School graduate or equivalent.
Bilingual preferred.
Must be able to function as health services team member prioritize have good
organization skills and be able to multitask.
Ability to use good judgment and exercise tact and diplomacy in dealing with others;
ability to respect confidential matters.
Must have traits of resourcefulness thoroughness initiative patience courtesy
dependability and enthusiasm.
Basic computer skills.
Prefer prior experience with children in a school or similar setting.
Must have transportation as school day may be split between two or more settings.
Physical Requirements: Ability to move in and out of office classrooms buildings and up
and down stairs. Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use
standard office equipment including a computer strength to lift and carry materials
weighing up to 20 pounds; vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; and
hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone. Strength to lift
and/or carry materials/items/persons weighing up to 75 pounds with assistance as the
students may need positioning.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent of Schools may find
appropriate and acceptable.
