Job Summary:
This position includes a full range of grant support duties (including identifying external grants budgeting monitoring contract reviews and reporting) project coordination literature reviews analysis of research programs and preparation of materials for the dissemination of knowledge to varied audiences.
The Research Officer is responsible for coordinating with researchers to develop research operations plans external grant applications and CancerCare Manitoba Foundation (CCMF) grant applications (operating and infrastructure). The Research Officer will support the Manager Research Development and Industry Relations to oversee and monitor research development to facilitate research and collaborations across the research enterprise.
The officer will be resourceful and independent and work within the framework of an integrated research program and team-oriented environment. Ability to adjust to changing priorities and meet deadlines will be necessary.
The Research Officer is an integral member of the Research Support Office working closely with the research management team to ensure all research projects are aligned with CCMB cancer and blood disorders research priorities. Once a research project is approved and funded the Research Officer will ensure these projects are well positioned to be successfully initiated and assist with monitoring project progression where needed to ensure projects are completed to specification and closed in a timely manner.
Qualifications:
Education
- Post Secondary degree in a health or science-related discipline from an accredited educational institution. Post Graduate (Masters) degree preferred.
Experience
- 5 years of experience working in a research/medical laboratory or other research environment
- 5 years of experience working collaboratively within a team environment with proven success of building collaborative relationships with colleagues and stakeholders preferably in a research laboratory or clinical environment
- 2 years of experience working in clinical trials projects/units.
An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
Skills and Abilities
- Attention to detail and have strong analytical skills
- Understand the research process strong research and numeric skills an interest in policy process and research contracts and a determination to explore issues thoroughly
- Ability to work independently and within multiple teams
- An understanding of necessary legal and regulatory documents related to research
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to prepare various documents/reports and deliver presentations
- Strong organizational skills and project management skills
- Excellent risk mitigation and problem-solving skills
- Demonstrated ability to think critically and formulate recommendations to senior leadership
Asset
- Doctorate level degree in a health- or science-related discipline
- Experience developing and managing research projects in a healthcare facility
Physical Demands and Working Conditions
- Must be able to work safely in a typical computerized office environment with frequent meetings and able to lift and carry items
- Interruptions to respond to questions are common; incumbent can schedule dedicated and focused time for planning and concentration

- Must be legally able to work in Canada
- Ability to speak French is an asset
