The Supervisor of K-12 Mathematics is a key instructional leader responsible for ensuring every student in Winchester Public Schools meets or exceeds mathematics graduation standards and grade-level proficiency benchmarks. This position drives the coherent vertical alignment of mathematics curriculum from kindergarten through twelfth grade with a sustained focus on instructional quality data-driven decision making and equitable access to rigorous mathematics coursework for all learners.
The Supervisor works in close collaboration with instructional supervisors multi-classroom leaders & coaches building administrators and the Executive Director of K-12 Curriculum and Instruction to design and implement professional development that is grounded in Visible Learning research and aligned to the Elevate 2030 Strategic Plan. This role is essential to advancing Winchester Public Schools commitment to instructional excellence learner agency and student achievement for every child.
Curriculum Development and Alignment
Leads the development review and vertical alignment of K-12 mathematics curriculum to ensure rigorous standards-aligned learning for all students
Oversees the design and implementation of Math Workshop structures across elementary intermediate middle and high school levels
Coordinates curriculum maps pacing guides and assessment frameworks in partnership with MCL coaches and content teams
Ensures alignment of mathematics curriculum to Virginia Standards of Learning (SOL) and the goals outlined in the Elevate 2030 Strategic Plan
Intervention and Acceleration
Designs and manages a coherent K-12 mathematics intervention framework to identify support and monitor students who are below grade-level proficiency
Develops and oversees acceleration pathways and advanced coursework options to ensure equitable access for all students demonstrating readiness for advanced mathematics
Collaborates with special education ESOL and gifted education supervisors to ensure inclusive differentiated mathematics instruction across all learner populations
Monitors the effectiveness of intervention and acceleration programs through ongoing data analysis and student outcome review
Professional Development and Instructional Coaching
Facilitates and delivers high-quality research-based professional development grounded in Visible Learning principles including clarity of learning intentions success criteria and evidence-based feedback
Partners with the MCL coaching team to build teacher capacity in mathematics instruction and formative assessment practices
Conducts non-evaluative classroom observations and provides actionable growth-oriented feedback aligned to the divisions instructional framework
Designs and supports PLC structures at the school level to promote collaborative inquiry and data-informed instruction in mathematics
Data Assessment and School Improvement
Supports school leaders instructional leadership teams and teachers in using SOL benchmark and formative assessment data to drive instructional decisions and monitor student growth
Contributes to division-wide KPI monitoring aligned to Elevate 2030 with particular attention to equity indicators in mathematics achievement and advanced coursework access
Assists in the development and review of School Improvement Plans as they relate to mathematics goals and student outcomes
Leadership and Collaboration
Collaborates with instructional supervisors across content areas to promote cross-curricular connections and a shared commitment to instructional quality
Implements manages and evaluates mathematics curriculum and instruction projects as directed by the Executive Director of K-12 Curriculum and Instruction
Represents Winchester Public Schools in state and regional mathematics networks staying current with emerging research best practices and Virginia Department of Education initiatives
Completes other duties as assigned by the Executive Director of K-12 Curriculum and Instruction
Qualifications Education and Experience
Minimum of five years of successful mathematics teaching experience; experience spanning multiple grade bands (elementary and secondary) strongly preferred
Demonstrated knowledge of mathematics pedagogy curriculum development and instructional best practices across K-12
Familiarity with Visible Learning research and its application to mathematics instruction
Experience with Math Workshop structures intervention frameworks and academic acceleration strategies
Proven ability to facilitate professional development and coach educators in a collegial non-evaluative context
Experience supporting school leaders and instructional teams in data-based decision-making
Strong interpersonal communication and organizational skills necessary for working effectively across all levels of the organization
Demonstrated commitment to equity student agency and high expectations for all learners
Administration and supervision licensure or endorsement strongly encouraged
Salary:
Commensurate with experience. Range is $92700 - $142756 based on the 2026-2027 salary scale. Salary includes payment for Masters Degree. Additional $8460 for earned Doctorate Degree.
