JOB OVERVIEW

Ontario Power Generation (OPG) is looking for a dynamic strategic and results-driven professional to join our team in the role of Small Modular Reactor (SMR) Field Technician in Training.

Reporting to the Senior Manager Operations & Maintenance this position is responsible for completing all training testing and tasks successfully to move into the SMR Field Technician role. The SMR Field Technician role performs SMR operations and maintenance across field and control room environments including inspections system operation monitoring troubleshooting and corrective actions under the direction of an SMR Certified Operator. The role also supports safety emergency response and training activities ensuring compliance with radiation protection contamination control work protection requirements and onthejob training standards.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

In this role you will learn key responsibilities to execute the following tasks:

  • Perform a combination of field control room operational maintenance and work protection duties in support of SMR operations under the direction of an SMR Certified Operator.
  • Conduct routine inspections electronic rounds system monitoring sampling and chemistry analysis to ensure systems and equipment remain within approved operating specifications.
  • Operate plant systems control panels and equipment including startups shutdowns changeovers testing and isolation for maintenance activities.
  • Identify and respond to abnormal or outoflimit conditions performing corrective actions troubleshooting and assigned panel or field operations.
  • Support emergency response and safety activities including fire response first aid hazardous materials confined space duties hot work processes and rescue operations in accordance with regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain strong adherence to radiation protection contamination control and safety protocols including decontamination checks and maintenance of clean work environments.
  • Deliver and support training and onthejob instruction for SMR Field Technicians and trainees contributing to qualifications JPMs and the systematic approach to training (SAT).
  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • One of the following is required:
    • Grade 12 completion with three Grade 12 universitypreparation courses in Math Physics and Chemistry with min GPA of 70%; or
    • Grade 12 (or equivalent) plus two years of postsecondary study in a related field; or
    • A Certificate of Qualification in a related field.
  • Must have valid Ontario drivers G license or equivalent
  • Demonstrated ability to take initiative to identify issues assess impacts and proactively implement solutions or escalate to the appropriate stakeholders in a timely manner.
  • The ability to work shifts including days evenings and nights.
  • Demonstrated strong attention to detail with the ability to produce accurate work identify discrepancies and ensure information is complete and correct.
  • Ability to safely perform the physical and environmental requirements of the role including lifting pushing and carrying materials; bending squatting twisting repetitive motion; working in confined spaces and at heights; climbing ladders stairs and scaffolding; prolonged standing; working outdoors; wearing required PPE; and working in radiationcontrolled areas.
