The Attendance Coordinator supports student success by promoting consistent school attendance and addressing absenteeism tardiness and truancy. This role combines school-based attendance management with field-based interventions including family engagement home visits and connecting students and families with community resources. The Attendance Coordinator serves as a critical liaison between students families schools and the community to remove barriers to learning.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelors degree in Social Work Education Counseling Psychology Criminal Justice or a related field preferred.
Experience working with youth families or in school/community services
Experience in attendance/truancy prevention or social services preferred
Strong communication interpersonal and relationship-building skills
Ability to analyze attendance data and identify trends in data
Knowledge of attendance laws and compliance procedures preferred
Strong organizational record-keeping and problem-solving skills
Cultural competency and the ability to work with diverse populations
Valid drivers license and reliable transportation for school and home visits
Ability to work independently and collaboratively with families and school staff
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Monitor attendance trends and identify students at risk of chronic absenteeism.
Develop implement and monitor attendance improvement plans for students.
Build positive collaborative relationships to improve engagement and attendance.
Communicate attendance concerns to parents/guardians.
Conduct home visits and student/family conferences as needed.
Connect families with community resources and support services.
Provide follow-up contact to ensure students return to regular attendance.
Assist in locating missing students and resolving enrollment discrepancies.
Participate in district-wide attendance improvement and student support initiatives.
Collaborate with teachers counselors administrators and other support staff to address attendance issues.
Document all attendance interventions and outcomes.
Manage communication and maintain records in accordance with district procedures.
Perform other duties as allowable and assigned.
Grant funded program services supplement and support but do not supplant or replace the general education program of the school district. There is no guarantee of continued employment beyond the availability of the funds or a demonstrated need that is expressed or implied by the Port Huron Area School District (April 2026)
