Job Title: Lab Engineer II
Contract Duration: 11 Months
Location: Sausalito CA
Responsibilities:
- Conduct data capture sessions data annotations and data processing using both commercial and proprietary software and hardware.
- Support and maintain capture labs for ongoing projects.
- Assemble debug and verify capture systems to meet predefined needs and specifications by collaborating with hardware engineers motion capture vendors and internal engineering/research teams.
- Test existing capture systems end-to-end to ensure accuracy and correctness isolating errors to specific components.
- Provide technical feedback on system quality stability and output by monitoring system infrastructure effectiveness.
- Set milestones and timelines for project management.
- Identify and escalate blockers and slowdowns in processes collaborating with researchers and lab managers to resolve issues and unblock projects.
- Produce technical documentation for capture systems to ensure clarity and standardization.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in engineering or equivalent experience.
- Proficient in working with both Linux and Windows operating systems using command line tools.
- Experience in a production capture setting.
- Experience with multi-camera systems depth sensors IMUs and integrating them into a unified capture system for data collection.
- Strong skills in debugging profiling and troubleshooting software and hardware issues.
- Hands-on experience with applied research and/or product development involving joint hardware/software design development and integration.
- Creative problem-solving skills with a can-do attitude and resourcefulness.
- Curiosity and eagerness to learn new and experimental technologies quickly applying them in day-to-day work.
- Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences by adapting language to their background.
- Collaborative experience with cross-functional teams including Engineering Research Product Design and external clients.
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5 years of experience working with capture systems.
- Additional experience in a production capture setting.
- Familiarity with distributed systems and/or cloud services.
- Proficient in scripting and automation including languages like Python and shell scripts (e.g. bash ZSH).
- Hands-on experience with multi-camera systems.
- Experience with open-source software.
- Strong background in fault analysis or failure mode analysis.
- Knowledge of camera synchronization technologies (e.g. Timecode Genlock) and real-time systems.
- Experience taking a system from concept to deployment.
- Experience with 3D printers and/or rapid prototyping.
