Job Summary
We are seeking an energetic dedicated and team-oriented Womens Softball Head Coach to lead our program. The successful candidate will be a mentor and strategist responsible for all aspects of the program including recruitment student-athlete development and operational management. This role is pivotal in fostering a culture of academic excellence competitive athletic success and personal growth for our student-athletes.
Based on the qualifications and experience of the successful applicant the anticipated annual salary for this position is up to $41500 plus an employer contribution to the UMS retirement plan. Additional benefitsinclude medical dental vision and tuition waiver programs for employees and dependents.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all aspects of practice training sessions and game-day competitions.
- Provide expert coaching and strategy development during games.
- Prepare detailed film breakdown and analysis to present to team members for performance improvement.
- Coordinate strength and conditioning/off-season programs to maximize performance and minimize injury risk in collaboration with the sports medicine/strength and conditioning staff.
- Identify recruit and retain high-caliber student-athletes who align with the Universitys values.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with prospective athletes and their families via email phone and in-person meetings.
- Utilize recruiting platforms (e.g. Front Rush) to manage the prospect pipeline.
- Manage the programs budget including forecasting expenses and reconciling reports.
- Organize team schedules including practices competitions travel logistics and meals.
- Lead fundraising initiatives specifically for annual events like the spring training trip.
- Develop and maintain active relationships with program alumni.
- Operate the program in strict accordance with the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and North Atlantic Conference (NAC) bylaws.
- Monitor and promote the academic progress and personal well-being of all student-athletes.
- Collaborate with the Athletics Department for event management support during the fall and winter seasons.
- Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both oral and written.
- Relationship Building: Ability to establish strong personal and professional relationships with all levels of staff and community members from diverse life experiences.
- Coaching Excellence: A proven track record of imparting sport-specific skills and broader life skills through athletics.
- Student-Centered Development: Proficiency in creating a training environment focused on the holistic growth advocacy and experience of the student-athlete.
- Recruitment & Motivation: Demonstrated ability to successfully recruit retain and graduate qualified athletes while inspiring them to reach their maximum potential.
- Program Leadership: Demonstrated commitment to operating an inclusive program that values respect for the health safety and well-being of all individuals. Ability to support and advocate for staff and student-athletes with varied identities and life experiences.
- Adaptability: Demonstrated ability to remain flexible and effective in a fast-paced athletic environment. The successful candidate must be able to pivot strategies based on game-time analysis adjust to shifting department priorities and maintain a positive solution-oriented mindset when faced with unexpected travel or scheduling changes.
- Collaboration: A collegial leadership style with a willingness to work as a member of a team and foster a team environment within the program.
- Technology Utilization: Adept at learning and using new technology software programs and general computer applications.
- Problem-Solving & Organization: Strong skills in decision-making planning and organizing program priorities.
- Availability: Ability to travel extensively including evenings and weekends.
- Education: Bachelors degree .
- Experience: Three (3) years of applicable coaching experience (a combination of equivalent education and experience will be considered).
- Compliance: Current CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain CPR/First Aid certification within thirty (30) days of hire.
- Licensing: Valid drivers license (in good standing per UMS standards).
- Masters degree.
- Intercollegiate coaching experience.
- Background as a collegiate softball competitor.
- Demonstrated success in recruiting and fundraising.
- Managerial or supervisory experience.
- Proficiency in recruiting software (e.g. Front Rush) and budget management.
- Certification in strength and conditioning.
The University of Maine at Farmington employees are Mandatory Reporters with the exception of UMFs licensed clinical medical providers (including athletic trainers) and mental health providers and their clinical interns when working in their capacity as providers.
