Job Summary
The Director Community Engagement and Governance leads Jewish Federations Jewish Federation in Your Neighborhood (JFYN) initiative. JFYN is Jewish Federations strategic new initiative for building closer relationships with Greater Philadelphia Jewish community agencies and congregations through a focus on leadership recruitment and training.
Essential Duties & Responsilities:
Supervise Jewish Federation in Your Neighborhood Initiative
Supervise the Director Volunteer Leadership Development and team of Community Engagement Managers with the overarching goals of increasing Jewish and philanthropic engagement through a focus on communal Jewish leadership.
Support strong stakeholder relationships including the integration of the former Kehillot as a feeder for community input volunteers and philanthropic investors to support the Jewish Federation and the entire community.
Steward relationships with top professionals and lay leadership at local synagogues and agencies. Identify opportunities for partnership. Promote opportunities to support Jewish Federation initiatives.
Manage the department budget.
Ensure the collection of relevant program data.
Generate analyses of the department program metrics and uses the data to inform and craft the future direction of the department.
Identify create and plan presentations to offer to diverse congregational and agency groups in an effort to strengthen connections between organizations and Federation and showcase Federation impact in the community.
Coordinate the Fall Holiday Guide project
Oversee best-in-class governance
Working with the CEO implement a best-in-class governance structure that actively establishes/engages/educates and informs the board to operate in support of community needs and in adherence to corporate bylaws.
Work with the CEO Jewish Federation professional and lay leadership to create and implement a calendar of engaging board meetings that include agency highlights interactive board engagement and timely discussion and action on key governance matters.
Steward the Federation Governance and Nominations Committee process for placement of Board of Director members and officers.
Work alongside the Sr. Director of Affinities and Leadership Advancement Federation staff and lay leadership to steward the placement of volunteers on Federation programs allocations and engagement committees.
Support agencies and congregations in the recruitment and placement of leaders on their boards and committees.
Design and implement Spring Annual Meeting and Fall Main Event in collaboration with FRD Marketing and Events Departments to honor and transition leadership celebrate achievements and provide opportunity for sustained giving annually.
Leadership Development
Supervise the Director Volunteer Leadership Development in developing and implementing a long-term comprehensive lay leadership development strategy for the Federation and the Jewish community.
Work with the Sr. Director of Affinities and Leadership to engage volunteers in more meaningful opportunities with Federation and other agency boards and committees to maximize the volunteer leadership experience and to enhance philanthropic engagement.
Develop the Board of Ambassadors including recruitment engagement and training. Serve as liaison between the Board of Ambassadors and the Federation staff.
- Reliable transportation required as the job will entail travel to the various communities as well as attendance at company sponsored events.
- 5-7 years of working experience in a non-profit setting preferably with Jewish Communal work
- Proven project management skills
- Strong written and oral communications skills
- Strong organizational skills
- Proven ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
- 3 years of progressive supervisory experience
- Bachelors degree or equivalent and relevant experience required.
- Deep knowledge of Jewish holiday cycles communal norms and emerging trends
- Proven experience developing programs and running successful events.
