Job Description:

Reporting to the Manager of Student Counselling and Wellness Supports this Counsellor will predominantly provide individual counselling services to students between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. three or four days per week (24 hours weekly). This role requires regular on-site work at Algonquin Colleges Woodroffe Campus.

This position requires the ability to function independently in a fast-paced clinical addition to individual counselling the role includes facilitating psychoeducational or therapeutic groups and delivering workshops and in-class presentations as required.

All members of the Counselling Services team practice from a trauma-informed equity-informed lens and deliver interventions aligned with current evidence-based practices and applicable professional practice standards.

Required Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in Counselling Psychology Social Work or a related field with a clinical counselling or psychotherapy focus from a recognized institution;

  • Minimum two years of recent postgraduate psychotherapy experience;

  • Registration in good standing with an Ontario statutory regulatory body where psychotherapy is a permitted scope of practice (e.g. CRPO or OCSWSSW). and authorization to practice psychotherapy independently.

Skills & Abilities:

  • Demonstrated clinical competence with a broad and flexible repertoire of evidence informed therapeutic approaches;

  • Strong clinical judgment and risk assessment skills including demonstrated experience conducting suicide risk assessments safety planning and crisis intervention;

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively within brief One-at-a-Time (OAAT) and single session counselling models including managing multiple timelimited client sessions in a day while maintaining highquality clinical care;

  • Ability to practice independently while seeking consultation and participating in peer discussion to support highquality clinical practice;

  • Experience providing both individual and group counselling or psychotherapy including psychoeducational and therapeutic group facilitation;

  • Strong organizational and documentation skills including the ability to maintain timely accurate and high-quality clinical records consistent with professional and organizational standards;

  • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of electronic client or medical record systems (EMR) for clinical documentation;

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly and professionally with clients colleagues and institutional or community partners;

  • Demonstrated ability to apply equityinformed culturally responsive and reflective practices in clinical work including working respectfully and effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and lived experiences;

  • Demonstrated ability to function collaboratively as a member of a clinical team valuing consultation shared learning and reflective practice.
