A Brief Overview
The Peer Support Triage Technician has been successful in the recovery process and will guide others who are experiencing similar situations. Through shared understanding the Peer Support Triage Technician will serve as a liaison for nurses counselors and patients in interdepartmental communications. The Peer Support Triage Technician will assist with the physical and psychological care of patients under the direct supervision of a Registered addition will participate in the following activities: advocating for people in recovery sharing resources building community relationships and leading recovery groups. Assumes responsibility and accountability for individual actions and outcomes of patient care delivered.
What you will do
- Assists patients through the triage process by collecting health data from patient referring caregivers and patient medical records.
- Performs routine duties and non-routine duties as directed by the nursing staff including admissions transfers discharges and transport of patients.
- Assists with the activities of daily living care of the patients to include but not limited to vital signs collection of specimens and other general nursing care procedures.
- Identify barriers (internal and external) of service recipient in participation of community resources and develop strategies to overcome those barriers. Referring individuals to appropriate professional resources when needed.
- Demonstrates effective communication skills to create a positive work environment. Maintains accurate and concise records.
- Assists in maintaining appropriate environment in the unit including cleaning procedures as directed.
- Works with individual patients in a 1-on-1 setting or in a group setting that is consistent with the nursing care needs of the patient and the inter-disciplinary treatment plan facilitating the transition from a professional directed service plan to a self-directed recovery plan.
- Assesses changes in patients condition/behavior and provides input to RN in creating and modifying the nursing care plan and assists with implementing therapeutic activities.
- Assists with patient programming and providing recovery education in every phase of recovery as well as being continually cognizant of the safety and welfare of all participants.
- Provides patient transport via agency vehicle as requested. Operates vehicle in a safe manner following traffic laws.

Required Education License/Certification or Work Experience:
- High School or GED Equivalent
- Peer Specialist Certification - Certification Board within 2 Years
- Drivers License - Licensing Board Upon Hire
- Recovery from lived experience in substance use and/or co-occurring mental health disorders (self-attested)
Preferred Education License/Certification or Work Experience:
- Bachelors
- EMR - South Dakota Board of Medical & Osteopathic Examiners (SDBMOE) Upon Hire
- Familiar with various EMS training techniques
- Medical terminology knowledge
